Why are all the looters black?

I can’t wait for Al Sharpton and Jesse to justify it…

Ummm…67% of the population of New Orleans is black.

I can’t tell if you’re serious, or just trolling…

White people find things.
Black people loot.

Why are you racist? And before you defend yourself by saying that you were simply asking a question, I would just like to point out where I see your racism.

If “all” the looters where white you would not have posed the question: Why are all the looters white? In fact, I would be willing to bet that you would not have posted this topic at all.

Where you see color, I see sadness and despair. Where you witness a difference of skin color, I see our brothers and sisters in need of our love and attention. We are a human race.

Did you look at the photo links posted above?

I couldn’t see them. Were they all carrying the same kind of items?

copy and paste the urls instead of clicking on them…

That is just about one of the dumbest things I have seen on ST. The pictures I have seen have been of people stealing anything and everything they can get their hands on. Shoes, new clothes, drugs, toys, consumer electronics ect. If it were limited to food and the esentials like diapers then it not be an issue and your quote above might hold true. But please explain to me how a new set Nikes or a toaster oven are going to help these folks through this situation.

My comments have nothing to do with race, but of people in general, who are stealing an taking advantage of others when they have no means to defend themselves. There very well be sadness and dispair, but it sure didn’t keep them from kicking other brothers or sisters while they were down.

The links don’t work for me anymore, either. But the discussion above sounds to me like the white folks were “finding” food, and the black folks were “finding” non-foods. I think that’s different in this context, although I’m not trying to defend theft.

I was watching a story last night from a local TV station down there somewhere, and they interviewed a man saying something like “People have to find food to feed their families” in the context of a looting story. I thought, yeah, I’d probably steal food too, if it was that, or my kids starve. Then, in the background, was video of people walking off with what looked more like TVs than food.

From caption on WWL TV Web site:

“Looters make off with merchandise from several downtown businesses Tuesday in New Orleans. With law enforcement officials and National Guardsmen focused on rescue efforts, looters are openly ransacking stores for food, clothing, appliances – and guns.”

Why are all the looters black?
Because all the people “scavenging essential supplies to try and stay alive in this horrible horrible disaster” are white.

The links work fine - like I said, just copy and paste them instead of clicking them.

edit: I just noticed the captions, indeed the one with the white folks said they “found” bread and soda at a grocery store

Amazingly stupid journalism.

Nice eye, although pretty sad.

I see your brothers and sisters in need of some dry ammo for all the guns they have stolen!

To say they need food that desperately is a cop out, it’s only been 2 days and they were warned for a long time to be prepared.

It’s hard to be prepared when your house is underwater, or just gone. What should they have done? I have no problem with people taking food or other essentials at this time.

When people break into WalMart and steal guns, T.V’s and other “life-saving essentials” I call BS

Well, yeah.

I flipped through the whole 79 pages of the yahoo photo album (I wonder if there’s a browser issue with the photos, I have absolutely no problem pasting the link in)…

Anyway, I saw people with food, a guy with a huge bucket of beers, and people with a lot of non-essential crap as well. Clearly only the food (and maybe the beer  can be excused…

I haven’t been able to see the links above

Do what jhc said, cut and paste the address.

At any rate, they both show people wading home with a case of soda and some food.

I also don’t think the answer is to start breaking into stores and stealing food. I would hope they would sense that relief is on the way.

In the first place, I don’t think anyone knows how fast that relief is going to get there. In the second place, a “sense” that it’s on the way doesn’t exactly fill your stomach, or ease the dehydration pangs. What is the answer, do ya figure?

I think when people loot, they use the excuse that they are just trying to save their lives and at this early stage, I don’t believe it.

So someone gathering food in a submerged city is looting, and has no excuse unless they’re literally about to croak? When would you allow it? Next week sometime? What’s the point in that?

Why would you take advantage of someone who could defend themselves. That will get you shot.

“stealing an taking advantage of others when they have no means to defend themselves”

What???

Do what jhc said

I love it when you say that
