Why a P2k is better than a P3

Any thoughts on this?..other than the obvious price?

Mainly because it’s quite a bit cheaper and only slightly less aero. But then you could use the same argument for the Dual vs P2K.

The P2K headtube is 1cm taller than the same-sized P3, so if you don’t intend to ride it Bjorn-style you won’t have to run as many spacers on the P2K. Other than that, price is basically the only difference.

In a recent Tri Mag Dan says that the Duel might be better then both the P3 and P2k for the MOPer because of the longer head tube. If you aren’t going to get low in front go with the longer head tube and not the stack of spacers.

Everyone talks about getting “low in the front”, but if you stand at the exit to T1 at just about any triathlon other than a few of the very top riders, most people are NOT riding “low in the front”. In fact, I see many on these super aero bikes, with a ridiculous, and possibly unsafe number of spacers between the headset and stem.

I ride a P2K, and was tempted by a deal on the P3, yet stayed with P2K for 2 reasons.

  1. P2K is stiffer where it counts for bigger riders (ie me) and handles a bit better when making descents and turns.

  2. PRICE $$$$$$ Dura-ace?? Not when I don’t have the salary of a Wall-Street Raider or Vascular Surgeon!

So the P3 is stiffer than the P2K. It has a more aero tube set and the wheel cut-out produces better airflow.

Apart from that the fit of the 2 bikes (apart from headset) is basically the same.

I LOVE MY P3!
