Why a headache after every swim?

I noticed that lately I have been getting a bad headache after every swim. I always swim continuously for one mile doing flip turns, and then afterwards I have to stay in the the sauna for a while to vasodilate the blood vessels in my brain (I guess) or otherwise I would get a very bad headache. May be my google is on too tight?

Googles too tight, not used to a swim cap, water too hot, dehydration, flip turns messing up equilibrium, all possibilities.

edit that a mile shouldn’t be TOO dehydrating but if you are swimming in hot (ie, 83 degree water like a lot of Y pools keep it) water it could be
.

Minor hi-jack: I’ve noticed in the last year or so, I see tons of “google” instead of “goggle” typos. (Like the first 3 posts in this thread) Amazing how “google” has become an automatic word once we type “go…”

Sorry, back to your headaches. Ummm… Drink more water and take an aspirin.

It could also be your breathing pattern, if you are not fully empting your lungs on the exhale.

being the unwilling queen of headaches, i go with tigerchick on the goggles. the other things can play into it, but i’d check the goggle thing first----does it feel better to get them off your face for a while (at a rest, say)?
there seems to be a sliding scale of what my head deems tolerable in goggle tightness, according to how long it must endure the tightness. i’m fine with super tight on a pool race with a dive start—up to about 400 meters. but in triathlons i generally never have a dive start, so don’t worry about them coming up/off/leaking, and have them looser…and not bothersome for the second half of the race.

I used to have the same problem until I started drinking water while doing my workout. I now bring a water bottle and sip on it during warm-up as well as between intervals. I make sure the bottle is empty by the time I’m done with the workout or else I drink it as soon as I’m done.

I have this problem from time to time, and I have a similar workout in the pool (no flip turns). I think the answer for me is proper breathing. Work on breathing more often or finding a better rhythm.

re: google/goggle

I typed once that I had “google eyes” after a workout. Running friends teased me they only got that after work all day, not swimming.

knew that I should have click on that check spelling icon… thnx everyone for the advice, i think that my goggle is probably too tight.
