Of course they want Harbaugh, but there are half a dozen NFL teams that will jump when there is a viable chance he leaves SanFran. Guy has said he doesn’t like to recruit, has made some pretty disparaging comments about his alma mater in the past http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?id=2966536, and would be taking a pay cut. I don’t see it happening.
I hope you’re wrong and the new AD signs Hoke to a 10yr extension to turn the program around. “Little brother” would love it.

They’ll make a run at Harbaugh but its far from a sure thing. There are some fences that would need to be mended in Ann Arbor first. If the Niners and Harbaugh do part ways, he will likely have his choice of NFL openings.

I was picking between the likelihood of Miles and Harbaugh.
Harbough was rumored to be interested in the Kansas job before Weiss got it. His wife is from KC. It’s a long shot but KU is going to send him a feeler and he wants 100% control over his program, which he would most definitely have there.
As far as Michigan goes, if they can’t get Les Miles I doubt they go the Michigan blue blood approach again. If I were them I would go with Scott Frost, Oregon OC. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scott_Frost
The Harbaugh, Meyer Dantonio dynamic would be really fun to watch in the B1G.
I think John Harbaugh could be a fit there too, especially b/c he won’t deny it and Michigan has already reached out to him. His response was along the lines of ‘I’m interested in seeing Brady being the head coach at UM for a long time.’. Not much of a ‘no’. The never ending distractions of the potential cover up, who knew what with the Rice debacle etc. Might be a nice new start.
Wouldn’t surprise me to see the Raiders make a play for Jim if he’s out in SF as well. He loves the Bay area…so many dynamics to this one will be very interesting to follow as the chips fall. Not sure how the Raiders management structure is now with Al gone, but Jim might have more of a shot at being the all poweful Czar with that nightmare of a team. Raiders Inc gotta be exhausted of the constant curb kicking.
