I know many think it’s cheating to get into Kona this way, But who else is really excited about the Ironman Lottery. Results will be posted in a few days.
Did Fewer people apply this year due to the economy?
Did you apply on not apply this year but have in the past?

Pretty sure no one considers it cheating. They may not consider it ‘fair,’ ‘the REAL way to get in,’ or ‘unearned.’ Cheating? No. However I paid and would love to get in, even if it does mess with my race schedule. Do I think I will? No.
I put down the cash for the lottery but because I don’t really want to go this year I will probably win a slot. With Lanzarote and IMC and UMC relay on my schedule, Kona might be one IM too many this year.
I’ve signed up for the lottery again, and can’t wait for the results. I don’t care what others think of entry this way, since it is a race-legal entry, screw them. And if they refuse to play in the lottery, great, more chances for me. It’s WTC’s race, and they can select participants however they want. I love the lottery as I will never break the 10 hour mark that is needed for me to earn a slot.
Ask all the people who missed qualifying the “real” way by 20 seconds after training 20-30 hours a week for years how they feel about the lottery?
The lottery is a “real” way, just as much as a “qualifying” slot. If someone misses a slot by 20 seconds, that is frustrating, but no more so than someone who trains 20 hours a week and misses by an hour. (no one *needs *to train 30 hours a week) The number of hours is not a factor in who “deserves” to go to Hawaii. They both want to go th Kona, they both can enter the lottery. Its a personal choice and no one gets tro say “I want it more than him”.
Bigger question is how she found out at least a few days before the rest of the crowd. And she found out by a local news station…btw, not an NBC affiliate. Hmmm. Thought these “results” were fairly close kept

They always release a few early for media so they can do a story.
