I am.
So are ya gettin’ pumped yet!? ![]()
I’ll be there!
Pumped, more like getting real nervous!
Once I am done racing Saturday, I will focus on CDA - which basically means lots and lots of running and swimming - my bike is pretty good right now - just need to focus on longer rides.
me too…
Any ideas what water temps will be? Website says around 70f, last year reports put it closer to 60, somewhere in between?

Last year, the water was fine. Probably about 65 degrees and quite clear. Wear a wetsuit and the water temperature will not be a factor. Pray the wind is calm for the swim because the Friday before the race it was a little breezy for the morning practice swim and it was pretty choppy.
If you really want to worry about something, worry about the heat and wind for the rest of the day. As everyone is aware it was HOT last year. The next day was 15-20 degrees cooler but crazy windy. The bottom line is that the weather will be unpredictable so be ready for anything.
Also, as has been mentioned here before, the bike course is deceptively difficult. The first lap feels pretty easy but it really takes its toll. The rolling terrain make it really hard to get into a rhythm and it’s hard to eat and drink with the constant up and down. The good news is that if you survive the bike in good shape, the run is mostly flat except for the far turnaround, which you’ll do twice on the bike and twice on the run.
It’s also cool that you can have a 14 hour day (like me!) and still finish while the sun is out!
Hope this helps.
I’ll be there.

I’m in.

I guess hills and heat are relative. Anyone from Austin that has done this race? Curious how the terrain compares.
Yep!
I love the course. Bring on the HEAT!!!
Swim: Water is CRYSTAL clear…Temps were fine.
Bike: Don’t get overwhelmed…Just be prepared that there can be headwinds on poleline road coming home.
Run: Lots of spectator support. Beautiful in areas.
Cheers,
Puskas
Even in relative terms, it was @#$% hot last year. Some people were getting reads of 106 degrees off the pavement. I don’t know what’s considered official for the air temp, but it was HOT.
Not going this year, but thinking about '05. I’m wondering about hotels. All I see is over $100 a night. Any cheaper options? Advice will be taken and greatly appreciated by you fine group of folks! (hows that for some A**-Kissing? lol) ![]()
Also, what places are close to the start/finish in case I bring the family?
CDA will be my first IM. My training is off because of an injury so I am getting a little stressed with the clock ticking. Zero swimming for 6 weeks.

Nothing that will be terribly foreign to you on the bike, though there is a climbing section you do twice that is worse than most climbs in Austin. Mostly flattish.
The run has some short ups and downs and some very gradual inclines, nothing too bad. Fairly similar to Austin. Maybe a bit easier than Austin rollers.
I will be there. Have not run in 6 weeks due to injury. Hope to start next week(tired of deep water running and eliptical. Have gotten in two centuries this week though.
I’ll be there. For anyone looking for a room…you might be a bit late. I live in the area and have asked around and everything seems to be full. Spokane is also full, or very close, because Hoopfest is that same weekend, and a jillion people come to town for the world’s largest street basketball tournament. If you want a break from IM on Saturday, go to Spokane and check this out…it is nuts!
Regarding Lodging:
Last year I went out and we rented a house - There was 6 or 7 of us and it made it very inexpensive and then we could cook. If you know people hwo are going, then I would look into this option.
Thanks Jaylew.
I’ve been doing a lot of riding north by Lake Travis and out towards Marble Falls (Volente, Lime Creed Rd, 1431, etc)…some nice hills out that way. I’m not too concerned about the bike course, based on what you are telling me.
