Ironmemes has it right about how they’ll use it
On the « all in » podcast he sounded like he is not 100%
It’s wild that there are two male Ironman World Champions in this race who haven’t won Kona. KB and Laidlow are both desperate for a win here.
KB says that winning Nice would have been fun and all, but it is not the same as winning on the Island. Winning on the Island means significantly more.
So it’s weird that people continue the fellatio of saying “move the world championship somewhere else”.
This is a pet hate of mine also, besides being horribly unprofessional it’s also just plane rude. Like FFS Jelle Geans is not exactly a no name up and comer, he is a world champion and some of the commentary still can’t get his name right!
People are allowed to be wrong.
Or even spell his name right for that matter : )
I still don’t think they were wrong. They were wrong to pull the plug too early if anything. Only old guys care about Kona. AGers under 30 never watched NBC highlights so it doesn’t mean the same thing. Pros may care but @TheStroBro can fill us in how how focusing on the pros has gone for T100.
100% this!
Old guys pay the bills and keep the lights on. And you have compelling races like last years women’s race with the drama you will get the younger kids on board.
Nice was a pretty compelling race last year also…
That’s exactly what I would tell everyone right before I drop the hammer on them.
Sam stay in front I am too weak, hehe.

I will have a listen
It was a good 1/2 marathon. But seeing Lucy and Taylor battle and then implode is The Crawl level of fantastic marketing and branding. Scott De Rue knows what he has in Kona and will bring in a new generation.

Naw, you need to pull the plug now and sign a 10 year deal to establish history. You can do the whole rotating thing I guess, but won’t have any prestige. Ironman is anchored to Hawai’i.
And last I check Kristian Blummenfelt is 32, not an old guy.

Laidlow is 28
They’re both pros! T100 has proved that catering to the pros is not a sustainable business.
Who?
Robert posted this in another thread
Let’s assume Sam rides at 320w and has a .20 CDA. That would be 1600 W/CDA.
Sam has ridden higher than this in the past
Anyone want to gets on Kristian’s Watts and CDA ?
My guess he is closer to 1400 W/CdA. That may make for a big deficit to close.
Laidlow is 28
IF we are going to be pedantic, he is actually 27. (-;
More Fighting Chances (Marquardt and Knibb).

Dev has said this on another thread he’s started:
I wonder how much Taylor’s Kona build got disrupted by UCI worlds after Nice. There are a few days to taper for Nice, and Nice itself would be specific training. No clue how much tri training she skipped for Monteal. On the other hand, the rest to sharpen up for those two races could be useful. I got to chat with her on a training ride in Nice about all that. She’s just having fun racing from the sound of things. Lucy on the other hand is a former Kona winner and knows what those roses feel like. Lovseth basically biked as fast at Knibb last year in Kona and she also ran faster than Knibb this year in Nice . . . [but Knibb rode v fast up Col de Vence] . .
