I’ve said it before, I don’t think farmers should take a hit because of Trump’s trade war games. But, at the same time, it’s handouts to people in his base for which he doesn’t want to lose votes from. If this is a piss and moan subforum in a Triathlon forum, let’s apply it to the LBS’s that have to pass price increases on bikes to consumers. Did they get a handout? No.
Literally cash payments. The same way dems are maligned for handouts to get their votes.
Do I feel for the farmer? Sure. Is it doublespeak…uhhhmmm, yeah.

Well played sir.

You know it’s bad when none of the Ballwashers show up to rationalize this somehow.
Somehow they will say that a meaningful debate on socialism and how it may be used by their man in the upcoming election as a key wedge issue is actually just joining in our circle jerk of all threads anti-trump.
Many people who support this socialist spending are the same folks screaming OMFG AOC BERNIE DEMOCRATS SOCIALISMS DEVIL.

This is very true. We know a family of dairy farmers and they are the first to scream “communist” about a guy like Bernie, slam welfare recipients, etc. and just don’t see their obvious hypocrisy as it relates to government subsidy for their industry.

That’s because they ‘deserve’ their handout while the others are GREEDY COMMUNISTS!!!

Yeah, in the interest of keeping milk affordable for Americans. So basically we all pay so that milk drinkers don’t have to spend $5/gal for it (or more). But putting food on the table via SNAP? Welfare bums!!
That is a straw man and you know it. It isn’t the milk producers getting these handouts, it is corn and bean (what we actually export to China) producers. They don’t need handouts, they need to produce less as the demand for their goods is far less than their production levels. They only grow as much as they do because they are so subsidized it is pathetic. Their is no reason for crop insurance to pay more the crp or other conservation programs. We don’t need corn growing in our ditches.
There is so much grain sitting in bins on farms right now, they don’t know if it will get sold before this year’s harvest.
The cognitive dissonance of farmers is unreal.
Farmers started becoming socialists in the 1930s after they completely fucked the environment and had to accept the cold reality that they actually need government intervention.

When the government buys milk, the market price goes up not down…

Well, there is a reason why horrible high fructose corn syrup is used so much in the USA and not cane sugar.
Are these the same farmers that get hit so hard by the inheritance tax?

Not sure who you want to show up and fight you on this one, sweetie. It certainly isn’t going to be one of the guys who, from day one of the 2016 primaries, said Trump is not a conservative.

The price is set to keep it affordable. Dairy farmers are going to get their income because of subsidy. One of two things would happen without it… they’d either have to charge a lot more per gallon to meet costs - which would make demand plummet more than it already has, or they could lower the price to be reflective of demand to get it to sell but they wouldn’t meet cost. That industry should have died a while ago.
