Who runs a tubie and clincher wheel at the same time?

am thinking of doing this for oly/sprint races. thoughts?

FWIW i dont carry tools/spares in shorter races anyway so there should be no issue.

I have done it in the past. Had a set of Hed 3 tubies but purchased a PT clincher rear (w/ wheel cover for racing). I sold the H3s last year though and am in the market for an aero front clincher now.

I carried a micro blowout bag w/ 1 tube, levers, and CO2 for short races and strapped on a spare tubular for half-irons.

I’ve done that you a few years. I had a HED 3 rear that I bought new. I also had a disc and a HED 3 front too but decided that too much money was tied up in wheels so I sold the latter two as a pair. All were tubies. I had a chance to buy an older HED Jet front for very little money so I took it. The wheel was a clincher. I’ve never had a flat on course or while training. I carried a spare tube and patch kit along with a spare tubular tucked up under the seat.

Alas, I sold the bike that I used these wheels on when I stopped competing so the poor things are hanging in my garage looking rather forlorn!

I run a clincher front H3 with a tub disc, or tubs front and back.
No spares are carried. They get minimal use, and are in good nick, so the chances of puncture are low.

Besides, if I do flat there’s always a nice walk back, or a friendly spectator to give a lift.

Zipp tubie front; Renn Disc clincher rear. I only do sprints so I don’t carry spares or tools (or a water bottle). If I flat, game over.
