Who rode outside today?

45 minute cyclocross State Championship race. 34 degrees or so. Warmed up on the trainer. Was fine for the race in just tights and long sleeved jersey. Nearly froze to death ‘warming down’ afterwards.

I rode this morining too in SOuth Florida. Must of got out earlier than you, Art, cause I would swear it wasn’t much over 60. Of course, I’m a total wuss when it comes to the cold. I wore: black long sleeve poly pro baselayer, tights and a jersey. Didn’t get warm till 10 miles in. Only rode 20 miles … lifted legs heavy in the gym this afternoon. Was really a gorgeous day.

In the Florida panhandle, I rode 45 miles. Part of which was on a road next to the water (Santa Rosa Island). It was absolutely beautiful, and temperatures ranged between 40 and 50 while I was out with 0-5mph winds.

Beautiful ride…

Funny that our paths crossed. I think I saw your sig. other huddled on the bench under the pavillion. How’d the race go? 'cross is tough, those are the hardest 45 minutes in bike racing!

…13 more weeks…

I had a great ride today. Just my third ride on my new tri bike and went about 55 miles. It was warm enough to wear bike shorts, short sleave jersey and windbreaker type vest. Rode from Windsor (60 miles north of San Francisco) up to Highway 128, through Alexander Valley, to Geyserville (yes we do have geysers!) and over the hills to Dry Creek Valley. I pretty much did the Half Vineman course in reverse direction. Had a rather strange encounter on Dry Creek road. A guy on a Harley comes by me close and yells at me to move far over to the right as 300 Harleys are right behind him. Next is a Santa on a Harley and then 10 minues straight of loud hogs. Some of the guys were trying to mess with me by riding real close. A few miles up the road they did a left turn and the leader simply stopped opposite direction traffic on this busy road so his crew could make an uncontested turn. It was quite a site. After passing the loud and roudy crowd, I made my way to Healdsburg, then westside road through the dormant vinyards. It was quite pretty but started getting a bit cold (mid to lower 50’s) for a short sleave jersey.

Finished the ride and my wife instructed me my next chore was to install christmas lights, and those leaves need raking and blah, blah blah…but it was worth it. Had a great ride and love the new bike. My first ti bike and I love it.

OK, I am busted. It started out at about 50, but it eventually got up to 70. It was easily the most pleasant century ride I have done. There was a tailwind home for the last 50 miles.

Life is definitely good, unless you were trying to play football up in NE yesterday.

Yeah, that was her shivering by the heaters. I saw you ride by on your single speed, that must have been a cold ride for you. I was fine during the race, but afterwards I was freezing.

The race went ok. I can’t start worth a damn and always get shuffled to the back on the first lap and have to claw my way back up. I did make it up to 3rd for the State Championships, so at least I got some hardware.

I rode yesterday here in Albuquerque. It was about 50 F. Just cold enough to keep all of the dog walkers and roller bladers at home. The only people I saw along the Bosque Trail, which runs along the Rio Grande, were other cyclists and a coyote. It was a test ride for a new set of wheels and I now understand why people send thousands on the super whamadyned wheel set.

Yeah, me too, only did 30 or so before I had to bail. Chilly, tho’, not sure where it got to 70 but not when I was out there! One of the few days where I could dig out my warm stuff and show it off. Hope you had a good ride, and did spare a thought for all the poor sods (you know who you are) who live in less habitable climes :~)

Cheers

Barry

You guys should move to Toronto. Balmy -15 degrees c. with the wind-chill: perfect for 4 hours of easy riding.

After 4 days of rain, the weather finally broke yesterday afternoon, and it was gorgeous outside. 55-60 degrees, mostly sunny with those big puffy clouds in the sky, some wind but not bad. After a week of messing with my position on the new bike on the trainer it was finally time for her inaugural voyage outside. What a ride! Is there anything better than your first ride on your dream bike? It was (supposed to be) an easy 40 miles but I was so excited that I stopped paying attention to the HRM and started hammering out of pure excitement. Even a badly trimmed rear der that kept skipping gears couldn’t dampen my enthusiasm (though I did almost eat asphalt once when it skipped as I got out of the saddle).

Oh well, back to the 5am trainer rides for the rest of the week.
