Prepping the bike for the weekend and I’ve always found piece of mind in taking a multi tool along. Who races with/without tools?
In a water bottle I keep
-tube
-crack pipe adapter
-Co2 inflator head.
-depending on the bike 2 Co2 (if I have my rear mount, they are on it)
-Parktool slim multitool (not that Gigantic monstrosity they sell…)
-1 Tire lever
-Electrical Tape (possibly the biggest life saver of them all)
-Extra Contact Lens
Depends on the length of the race. Oly or shorter, nothing. 1/2 IM, tube, CO2, inflater, levers.
Brad
2 x CO2
2 x tubes
1 x tire lever
3 individual allen wrenches (4, 6, 8 mm I believe)
oh yeah and a cell phone!
You guys are hauling all this stuff in a race? Seriously, a cellphone? In a race? Are you racing RAAM?
How much does your bike weigh in race dress?
Brad
oly and shorter=pitstop
70.3 and up=pitstop+multitool
.
My bad on the cell phone, just realized what the original question was. Minus the cel that’s my hual for 56 or better. Oly is just a tube and cartridge. Sprint…nada

I like to think more highly of my competitors.

I always have on my bike:
Two tubes
Two CO2 plus inflator
Patch Kit
Multi-tool
Small frame pump
I’ve flatted twice during races (once in an Oly and once in a 1/2 IM).
Training:
1x CO2, 1x Tube, Levers, Really small multi-tool, ID, cell phone, cash
Sprint and Olympic:
Nothing
Half IM:
1x CO2, 1x Tube, Levers
IM:
1x CO2, 1x Tube, Levers
Plus a duplicate set of the above in special needs which I only pick up if I use the first tube/CO2 in the first 56 (never have).

Good one!
To the OP, I always (training, sprint, oly, 1/2 and full IM) carry a tube, CO2 inflator, and tire lever. That’s it. I check my bike and fix any problems before I leave home.
Having said that, I travel to races with guys who bring enough tools and spare parts to do a complete overhaul on their bike while we’re waiting for the race to start, and some type of multi-tool with them while they race. I don’t know why they do this (knock on wood but I’ve never had any problems at a race besides flat tires), but it’s OK with me if this makes them more comfortable.
When I read your thread title, I thought you had joined Team in Training.
it seems like every g-damn time ![]()
.
sprint, oly = nothing
half, full = 2 x tubes, 3 x CO2, mini-bike pump, levers.
I race with a multitool and tire levers if necessary. Importantly my multitool has a chain breaker on it.
I carry pretty much 2 of everything for IM. 2 tubes, 2 inflators, 2 CO2’s and numerous other things including a multitool!

+1 to having the chain breaker.
The parktool Multitool (http://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-Multi-Tool-MT-1C/dp/B002LBC6DU) weighs under 2 ounces…
As to carrying a flat kit… I do it in EVERY race.
Yes, your race is probably over in a sprint/oly if you have mech. problems… but god, sometimes it can take HOURS for somebody to come pick your @ss up if you flat out a couple miles from transition. Also, some things can be fixed/rigged in under a minute IF you have the proper tools and experience to solve the problem.
Question for those, seems quite a few, that carry nothing for Olympics and sprints. If you flat out on the course, what do you do? I am not concerned about oh wow I gotta finish, but if your are 8mi from transition how do you get back?
lunacy to take off on a bike in a race or for training without at least a minimal self support kit.
here is mine
sometimes carry a couple more items depending on the distance or course.
Walk and/or wait for the sag waggon. At least that’s the plan. Knock on wood I’ve never needed it.
Also, most of the local races I do are on courses I know really well - so there’s virtually always a short-cut back to transition if I need it.
