Who knew it's gotten this sensitive?!?

honest question. why was that completely harmless thread deleted?
seems flat out weird.

Which thread was deleted.

Which thread was deleted.
it was titled ‘who knew it was this easy?!?’.
i had nothing to do with the tread, but it seems like a strange candidate for ‘disappearing’.
basically just a link to some guys blog about his (slightly optimistic) plans for racing and becoming pro (basically from starting out).
a couple mild comments…then the guy who shows up who is the author of the blog and…poof!..thread gone.
weird. seems like some sort of moderator preemptive strike

???
i’ll simplify for you.
there was a thread about something…it disappeared for no reason that i can tell…i’m curious as to why…
for details please refer to my previous post.

Don’t worry! I’m not going anywhere…I didn’t know this forum existed before and I am glad I found out about it.

I can tell you the thread deletion had nothing to do with me.

Hopefully you saw my post. If you’ve had a good background in athletics 2:10 is definitly possible.

I think I do remember it…thanks for the positive motivation. Been an athlete most of my life, just took a bit of a break after I got married and had kids

I can’t guarantee anything, but I am going to try.

“why was that completely harmless thread deleted?”

i’d like to reprint the text of an email i got, from a longtime forum member, about the completely harmless thread:

"Been a member of your community for some time now (not many of us left that remember the “old” forum, much less can say that they have a post on the last page of the current forum), and appreciate how you run things.

“I’ve never complained about anything on the website/forum (don’t have too, b/c I love it), but this thread for some reason bugged the shit out of me”

he then references the completely harmless thread with a link to it, and goes on to explain why this thread bothered him so much, specifically,

"here’s a guy that has found a passion and outlet for tri’s, and serves our country. He’s in a country were it’s questionable if someone is coming back to their hooch on any given day, fighting for a cause that many people have long since forgotten. One of his only outlets is training for tri’s and his dreams."

clearly, harm is in the eye of the beholder. in my years of running this forum, i’ve not yet found the person who asks, why was the harmful thread deleted? nevertheless, one man’s joke is another man’s finger in the eye. the subject of the post has been completely cool about this. he has not complained at all, and i’m guessing he’s going to be a great addition to the forum.

in case you’re wondering, i checked. the IP address of the subject emanates from kabul, afghanistan.

the omnipotent slowman strikes again
.

“the omnipotent slowman strikes again”

but not omniscient. one does the best one can with the information and wherewithal at one’s disposal.

I’m confused. Nothing new with that but still confused. What was the bad part?

i had no idea that he was serving in kabul. that may change things a bit, but it seems to have effected the long time forum member a lot more than the original poster.
seems like the op can take a bit of ribbing (i mean, if a soldier can’t, then who can).
on the other side of the coin, the original posters post was also deleted…maybe that would be more distressing to him if there was no explanation…who knows.
anyway, welcome thetriathlonman, you have come to the best tri related place and i’m sure you’ll get endless amount of help and info here. big goals are good to have…although
i can’t even remember what they were specifically now that the original thread is gone : ) you have an athletic past, so combined with working your ass off, who knows how far you
can get.

I would just like to say THANK YOU to thetriathlonman for serving and welcome to the tri community, Best of luck with your plans.

Hey guys/gals, thanks so much. As far as I’m concerned, no harm no foul. You have to learn how to take shots from time to time, so although I may have many faults (just ask my wife), having thin skin is not one of them.

As far as the goals go, if you are really interested, you can ask me for the link via PM, although I’m sure the OP from the last thread might still have it. Keep in mind though, that the post was written before I got my deployment orders, so the timing might be off a bit.

I had just happened to look at my site stats and saw an influx of visits from this forum, and thought I would check it out. Glad I did!

as someone who has family in the military (I will be soon as well), just wanted to extend the thank you T-man. A colleague of mine was in Iraq several years ago and trained in a closet. He’s now a CAT 2 cyclist. Stick to your goals, your training plan, and do it.

With props to you Slowman for a fantastic forum, deleting the post may do unintended damage. The best people learn from mistakes. Much feedback came because of the response to the original poster, who may have sorted through the critiques and realized the opportunity to add specificity to his goal setting. It was intellectual resistance training. Everyone reading, not just the original poster, relearned that dreams are not equal to actionable plans. If you inhibit such responses, learning opportunities are lost with them. The forum stagnates. You’ve long been a proponenet of progress, of critical thought. Reverse direction. Restore the posts.

Telling someone they are full of crap, idiot, stupid, etc thinking they can go from a 2:50 to a 2:10 in a year isn’t a suggestion its just being an ass.
