Not in a mean “I hate him” but in a “Dude I just don’t want to hear it way?” I read his interview in Outside and it is the same interview he gave in 1999. The press has just hammered this too death. He has nothing new to say because he is following his plan and much to my shugrin the details just aren’t that much fun anymore.
I am.
I wish I could see Jan beating him in the mountains…
I sure am…
He still believes in marriage as an institution and wants more babies and Ms Crowe is now is riding bikes at 46. Outside is a gossip magazine, what more do you want from them. Naked female rock climbers on the cover?
oooooooo…naked female rock climbers!..wait…are they HOT female rock climbers or do they have body hair?
Lance F.
Other than my kids, I’m not really “fanatatic” over anybody, but I have to admit that I’ve very much admired Lance as an athlete for quite some time now.
But even I’m starting to grow a little weary of it all. Not really him personally, because A) I don’t know him, and B) what you hear through the very long “grapevine” is that there’s probably little to like.
But the TDF thing…I guess I’m just disappointed that he didn’t do more this year…you know, really go out with a bang. I had this foolish thought that he’d give a go at all three Tours…try to really accomplish the “impossible.” Maybe another crack at Worlds even. The hour record…something!!
I have a pretty good comprehension for how monumental a task winning the TDF is. And don’t get me wrong, 7 in a row is astronomically unreal…and will likely never even be approached ever again. I guess I’m just greedy…
I’m a lifelong Met fan…and to me, Lance is starting to become the Yankees. Spend the most money, buy the best team…I know it doesn’t guarantee anything…and the accomplishment is still remarkable…but it just kind of gets old.
Anyhoo…I hope he wins…then I will really look forward to next year’s TDF!!
I believe that he has changed. I read the Outside interview article last night. If you read between the lines, I sense a softening around the edges. He really does seem ready to walk away from it all, hang out with his kids and Sheryl and cruise around with hairy legs as he has said elsewhere. In the same article he seems to put to rest any thoughts of a return to triathlon. No surprise there on my part.
The hype machine will of course, continue full-bore until July 24th and then, I suspect that it will start to fade.
My prediction is an exciting and dramatic Tour. Armstrong has always been at his best when he’s backed into a corner, when the odds are against him. Due to his own strategic work and attention to detail and the others around him, this rarely happens, but when it does, you see the real Lance Armstrong. Recall, the fall in the Pyranees two years ago, when he raced back and won the stage with a bruised back and broken bike or the little cyclo-cross routine in the Alps to avoid a fallen Beloki. That was Armstrong, stripped of the supporting cast and at his best, in my mind. I suspect that Lance will have his hands full in July.
Fleck
good thing its his last season then eh?
I’m not, but last year he sure was tired of me when I climbed a fence just to watch him warmup on the trainer
.
The hair was all in the right position.
good thing its his last season then eh?
What part of Canada are you from?
hahahha jerk, you only said that cause of the “eh?” i bet. i’m from Montreal, Quebec.
You’ll miss him when he’s gone.
I dont think I could tire of Lance. What’s to get tired off? The story of his recovery from cancer, his work with charities, his “non” NBA/NFL/MLB demeanor? Top that with the fact that without him the sport of cycling remains in the - also in sports section of the newspaper and TV…and I think everyone needs to be thankful for the time he is with the sport and not look to hasten his departure
never tired of him. i could hear the same things over and over and never be tired of it.
don’t hate the playa, hate the GAME!!!
don’t hate the playa, hate the GAME!!!
Agreed. You can’t be mad at Lance for all the media hype. I bet he doesn’t like it too much either. It’s not his fault that thousands of people have built a marketing empire around his name and his performance. Boiled down to the basics: it’s always thrilling to see an exceptional athlete compete. Period. I’ll never get tired of that.
I feel about Lance Armstrong the way I feel about Wookies.
I CAN’T GET ENOUGH!!!
GO LANCE!
I suspect that some cyclists and cycling fans are like the indie-music snobs. If the masses have heard of something, then it must no longer be good or interesting to them.
Sick of Lance? Not really. Sick of the media? Big time. For the most part, I’m just not that interested in the personal lives of athletes and celebrities. I’m much more interested in their accomplishments. In Lance’s case, his personal story regarding overcoming cancer is relevant to his athletic achievements and makes his accomplishments all the more impressive. That being said, I only need to be beat over the head 4 or 5 times before I get the point. The rest of his personal life is just gossip.
tired of Lance?
dunno, maybe:
Kevin Livingston
Floyd Landis
Bobby J
David Zabriske
Vino
DiLuca
Simineoni
LeMond
Cofidis
Just a guess, but I’m sure there are lots more.
