Who is going to die in the next 6 years? next 3?

and if you were able to stand up from a cross legged position without using your arms at all - how? i tried rolling to my knees but almost broke both ankles trying to do that (tile over cement make a difference?).

Pretty silly but I tried it anyway……sitting was no problem, but took me three tries to get up  I rocked back and forth a bit…maybe cheating.

I rolled forward onto the sides of my crossed feet, lifted butt slightly off the ground and achieved balance, then pressed up as if squatting (with feet still crossed), then uncrossed my feet when I was standing all the way up.

Yep. It also helps if you let yourself (or at least it does me) rotate. When I get up from crosslegged in MA classes, I usually end up doing a 1/2 turn and facing backwards.

I’m not going anywhere. Even at 64 yrs old with 2 fake hips I just did it 3 times. I stumbled a little on the third one, but heck, I didn’t plan on dying any time soon anyway
!

Getting down was easy, getting back up was harder but I did it. My long legs crossed sure do not seem to help.

.

I read the article and got a little nervous. I popped down and popped up with my hands comfortably clasped at my waist the entire time. That yoga must be paying off. I plan on living forever now.

I’ve got really bad balance so I may as well live it up for the next few years.

Shift weight forward onto sides of your feet (butt lifts), stand up on the outside of your feet (knees spread out), rotate ankles so you are on your feet, stand up the rest of the way.

I suspect that the ability of this test to predict mortality depends significantly on the risk of an older person dying from a hip fracture from a fall in their later years. (The test is for people over 50 per the article.)

I bet there are other coordination-based challenges that would show similar effects, based on the link between elder coordination/mobility vs falls.

This makes my left knee hurt just to think about.

Tried it…have a call into my attorney to ensure my will is in order!!

The test insinuates that I will never die.

thanks everyone! went for a run and then seeing how everyone was having no problem i got a pillow and put it under my feet and went down (super easy) and then scootched the pillow so it would be under my ankles on the standing up part - SUCCESS!

is anyone doing this on cement?

i’m also ASSuming you’re all old farts (over 50)?

yay! i gave myself a 9 since i wobbled a bit coming up.

I have to fall the last little bit to get down and cannot get up without possibly doing damage to my already suspect left knee. Based on this my future looks grim. However, I am well into my 60’s and just won my AG in a 70.3. Somehow I think this test is flawed and does not take into consideration those in the peak of cardio fitness.

No problem at 55.

Me. I am not even flexible enough to sit cross legged. I think my wife is on the phone upping the insurance. Ha.

Same here, I’ve never had good flexibilty. Have never been able to touch my toes, so I’ve been dead for quite some time. Shocking, since longevity is a family genetic trait. Maybe, we’re all just a family of walking dead.

Holy shit I am the walking dead and I am 36. I will try again tomorrow. Sober.

I couldn’t have done this without a topple ten years ago – now no problem. A shitload of yoga, core work, and squats mean my parts are wired up a lot better than they used to be.
