I am starting to itch for a good race. The new tubulars are coming, the legs are feeling good, the Fire in FIRELUV is there. Who else is analyzing and training their swim, bike, and run, while they anticipate the upcoming race season. I am busy looking at past Tri Articles reliving the races through other’s eyes.
I’m also getting a bit anxious, but it’s due to lingering injuries that still haven’t gone away. If only I had a few more months before my first race…
A few of my friends have already gotten a race or two under their belts, so that has me even more excited/envious of their seasons.
Adam
I just found out that for the Iron Horse race* (Illinois), my family, my in laws, and my best friends from Kansas City are all coming down. It’s on father’s day, so I guess they’re going to watch daddy get what he deserves.
The course is likely more than I can handle, but it wasn’t filled up yet (thank you Chicago tri clubs for not mass-entering and filling up at least one downstate race wink, you know I’m funnin’ ya). I’m training like mad to get ready for it, but there is still doubt lingering. I’m hoping for under 6 hours, but more than anything I’m hoping not to “blow up” in front of everyone [really, I just don’t want a flat tire or cramps, I can handle most other things). My buddies will be all over me.
I’d like to at least “finish strong” in front of my “support group”. I can’t wait to hear some of the jeers my buddies throw out as I limp by.
The sprint races don’t bother me, I’m pretty confident I can handle those. Oly races are going to be my “challenge races”, where I’m pushing to go fast AND pushing to finish.
Guilty…looking at my TT and last seasons results. What workouts do I have left before that first big race that can help? Last seasons injuries are not with me this year…anitcipation…anxious…nearly ready.
Jimmy, calm down! I’d prefer Ralph’s to be a couple of weeks later since I missed 10 days training in February.

PS–Where is a picture of the new one?
Crap! I’m supposed to be training?!?
the butterflies started when I saw the ad for the inaugural half-iron nationals.
they multiplied when I read thru the qualifying info and realized I had already logged a time under the standard for my AG.
the butterflies laid a zillion eggs the day I registered for said race. that was over a month ago.
what, exactly, is the gestation period for this species of butterfly?
I think I’m in trouble…
You could say I am getting anxious. Last week was the first week I was able to run at greater than 70% max HR and for more than 40:00.
Given that on Sunday there were 3 weeks to go before IM Brazil, and that I am carrying an extra 11lbs on the carcass you could justifiably say I am anxious!
Yo Cathy,
I will email you a picture. And I have been spending so much money preparing for the season, that I feel the need to justify some of the spending. I think we all want to see a good improvement from year to year however gradual it may be.
We’ve had a mid-winter “warm” spell here in Cleveland - temperatures in the 50’s since Saturday, and it looks like the rest of the week will be the same. All the runners were at the park today showing off our ghost-white legs.
I’ve lived here all my life and know that we’ll see snow again before this winter’s all over with, but damn, I’m ready to go… IMUSA is just five months from last Friday.
