I have gotten the emails inviting me to join and am considering. The thing that makes me hesitant is that I kind of feel like I’m getting towards the end of my triathlon “career”, short as it may be. As such, I really don’t see myself investing much more in gear over the next few years. Is there really any good reason to join?
I could have sworn there’s a thread talking about exactly this but I can’t find it. @Bryancd is the guy to talk to though.
Ya, when I typed up the original post, there are those suggested similar threads. Others mentioned Zoot, but I didn’t see one asking this question.
IMHO the main reason to join is if you need/want a new trisuit, and you happen to like Zoot trisuits. It’s a decent discount. There are other discounts you get through the team as well, but to be honest -most- of them aren’t much better than anyone else can get at various times throughout the year.
They do also have some interesting weekly online meetings/presentations that you might enjoy.
I’ve really enjoyed the team aspect. You HAVE to buy one race suit and wear it to any events you do, but there are no costs or requirements otherwise. Because of this, you can easily spot other TZ athletes and it’s been a good conversation starter and way to meet people.
As someone else said, the discounts otherwise aren’t typically SO much higher than someone who is a careful shopper could find, but there are some good ones and they are year-round.
I like it and the community!
Here I am! I wound be your regional captain, I lead the Southwest Group. ![]()
40% off Zoot gear. We have 25% with Garmin, QR and HED offer really good tram pricing. Because we are large, we have a lot of brands that want to partner with us. We also get a lot of free race entries we can share with our Team.
I already have two Zoots, and then an Ironman branded Zoot bib. Plus I have a couple other things I’ve picked up over the last couple years. I’m pretty well stocked up on the suit thing so I’m not really seeing much of a benefit.
I was excited about the 25% garmin discount…but it has a few bits of small print. The team discount only works on certain items at Garmin…which was pretty disappointing.
That’s correct, it’s only in their watches/bike stuff. But Garmin does some sales but not many get access to 25% off. I mean we are a triathlon team, should people expect discounts on such air aviation gear too?
I understand the US team is quite different from what we have in the UK, I was a member last year and it was a complete waste of time/money. Just seemed like a way to sell some kit at a ‘discount’ but the starting price is higher than the same non team products so its not as good as it seems!
The main benefit seemed to be a WhatsApp group of people, which turned out to be a bunch of people complaining that their order is missing / no one at Zoot was getting back to them!
I did not renew my membership!
We brought in 2 new Captains in the UK and France for 2026, looking to have a better presence.
I was on TZ for about 4 years and as it progressed, I felt it was less and less of a team atmosphere and more of just a “who has the most matching kits” competition. No race interaction beside a head nod. I think if you’re just beginning your triathlon journey, it could be beneficial, but in my experience finding a smaller more close knit team would be better. A lot have the same discounts on similar partners and dont require you to buy a new kit every year just to stay on the team.
That’s understandable, Zoot obviously is a clothing manufacturer and every year we want a new design and to have everyone wearing it on course for the aesthetics. It’s difficult to organize team activities just because of logistics and concentration in more urban areas. I run a few events for my Southwest team but the reality is they all occur in Phoenix as that is where I am. We try to enourage and support other smaller metro areas or towns with team members to get together but there will always be spots where it doesn’t happen. We do make an effort at every race to get the teams together for a picture and a run and to meet up at the Zoot presence in the Expo. For 2026, we have rolled out a Team ap and are hoping it will provide a better way for the team to communicate nationwide and drive engagement and more meet ups as people can speak with each other more directly.
Is that replacing the current or adding a 2nd in the UK? I don’t want to bully people on the internet, especially without him having the chance to reply, but the old one wasn’t very good!
I was excited to join as I thought it would be a community and have some meet ups / events / chance to train with some new people etc. But we have absolutely nothing!
I believe it’s a new person along with the previous but I may be mistaken. Yeah we just haven’t been able to focus properly on Europe in general past two years but are really trying for 2926, we have an official Team Zoot Europe and I’ve been on calls with their Captains to discuss what they need for support.
Didn’t mean to set you off…but I did only state the facts…and the discount is NOT for all watches either…so there is that. I was not interested in aviation equipment…but thanks for your reply.
And I’m just providing context, I’m not upset.
Everyone is going to have their own expectations and not everyone is going to have the same experince.
Just to put a more positive opinion out there compared to some others that have been voiced…I have been on Team Zoot for a few years and have enjoyed the discounts. The Zoot discount is 40% and applies to sale/closeout merchandise too, which is pretty rare in my experience. I have definitely stocked up on gear.
I have not been able to participate in a lot of the gatherings because of injuries, but I have heard the Grand Junction training camp is great.
At races, it might help you strike up a conversation with someone you wouldn’t have otherwise, and who knows lead to more friendships in your life.
If other teams do the above better in your particular case, then that’s great too.
Yes, the Captains Dana and Troy do a great job with their camp.
