Since there has been so much hype that I have read on ST about having Mdot tatoos, hats, clothes, etc,
I wonder if anyone has gotten some type of Team USAT Tatoo to show their excitement or what ever
reason one gets an Mdot Tatoo? Or a USAT Tatoo?
If you’re a dude, and are going to get this tattoo, don’t get it on the middle of your lower back. I think only chicks should have target tats on their lower back.
Dave - I think there is a difference between the USAT symbol and the M-DOT. The USAT symbol is strictly a symbol of a not for profit organization that is the USA national governing body of triathlon as recognized by the IOC. I think to most athletes, USAT is just an organization that provides insurance; just like you buy automobile insurance and get a proof of insurance card for you your car, you buy a USAT license so you can show your proof of insurance at a race. Most athletes would also recognize that USAT provides a rule book, trained officials, and maybe some other things. I don’t think most would consider a USAT tatoo more than an ALLSTATE or STATE FARM tatoo.
M-DOT is different. Now, WTC does own the trademark for the symbol, and it is a registered trademark of a for profit corporation. However, M-DOT means much more to many athletes. It symbolizes an event, WTC for some but for others any 4m\112m\26.2 mile triathlon. It symbolizes commitment, dedication, and a level of fitness most could really not conceive of. I could go on, but I’ll stop by saying that completing an ironman (no capital "I: on purpose) means many things of significance to many people.
The M-DOT is the symbol that most people recognize associated with this achievement. So when someone wants to symbolize their achievement they often use the M-DOT symbol. This is similar to when someone asks for a kleenex, they don’t really mean “hand me a Kleenex brand facial tissue, and only Kleenex brand”, they are merely asking for a facial tissue.
I go to the trouble to write this because you have often admonished others for berating USAT, and recently team USA. So, why are you berating others for choosing to symbolize what they consider an achievement?
And no, I do not have an M-DOT tatoo, nor am I likely to get one. But the symbol does mean much more to me than WTC.
I’m still bummed that they changed the name from Tri-Fed. No one understands my tat now.\\
Tri-Fed, how about my USTA one, it’s like having your first girlfriend’s name on your leg…Really should have gone with Mom, now that one will never be regretted…(-;
Am just asking for folks opinions. Slow day. Now, I do believe that the folks that say the M-dot is the tri all is way over the top, IMO.
Some of us are better at long distance, some short. Some are racing, some are participating. Some are “fast”, some are “slow”.
But, as I posted many times, no matter what the distance, or time, everyone has the right to be proud of what they have done.
Some like to show this is different ways, which again is cool for me.
And I train just as hard for my Oly distance races, IMO.
So again, was not trying to start another person attack thread, was just wondering. I was like why Worlds get no respect. It is always
interesting to me to get others opinions, not trying to “prove” who is right or wrong.
Thats pretty cool. I see they have come out now with new Tatoo ink that if one wants to remove, only takes
one laser treatment. Never had a tatoo, but I have learned to never say never.
