Between the naked Gordo Oomph! sponsorship thread http://www.coachgordo.com/forum2/upload/index.php?showtopic=2769 and “Find Norman Some Clothes” I must say that the whole logo thing strikes me as pretty silly. Here’s my list of logo issues: I am paying for gear, so why do vendors think I want to pay THEM to advertise their company as well? My local tri club wants me to buy a “team” uniform that is really a walking billboard for lots of products I don’t use. Unfortunately…do you think anyone really buys some of the weird stuff some of these racers promote? Triathletes seem to be pretty inflexible in their buying…maybe it works on spectators? Check out Mark Allen Online’s latest team announcement in Triathlete, if you sign up to for full rate coaching, you might also be sponsored by a suppliment company and are then required to wear their gear in a race. I know that the cost of the suppliment is expensive, but it seems (like Team Bike Vendor) that you really aren’t getting much of a deal and probably end up paying to be “sponsored” Can you image any bigger “Poser Power” than riding a P3C (with its gaudy graphics) and wearing “ST Peaceful Tribe” gear at a race?
Is this any different than buying a car/bike/golf clubs/anything with the company name plastered all over them?
I habe also been known to purchase something I saw on someone. Doesn’t have to be a pro/elite athlete. If I see it and think it looks neat/useful, I will likely get it too. However, if there is no logo on the product it could be fairly hard to find the product. ![]()
things do seem a little whored out, but it doesn’t really bother me–i choose clothes that display little to no logos.
however, i am sponsoring a cycling team this year and will pleased as punch that my company logo will be the primary logo on the team’s jerseys. so, it benefits me and my business…therefore, I love logos! plus, with the money it cost me they wouldn’t be able to race the way they will this year…I’ve more than earned a big fat spot on a jersey.

Generally speaking consumers are a fussy lot when it comes to logos on product. For the most part, most consumers want them small and discrete, or not at all. That’s why you see the gear with the big flashy logos on the clear-out racks at the end of the season, year after year.

Custom sublimation costs and the minimums have been coming down over the years. It’s now attractive for clubs and groups of a modest size to have great looking customized kit. Some look upon this as a perk. Some look upon it as offensive. Some look upon it as a marketing opportunity. Different strokes for diffrent folks.

There is a small subculture of triathletes and road cyclists, who want to have that look - they want to look like the top pros. So they seek out that same gear and wear it all the time. However, this is a smallish group and like in #1, you will see the close-out racks filled with unsold tem logoed pro team gear at the end of every season.

Things have evolved from the time we all did, all races, the whole way in a Speedo. Yikes!!

Now that you mention it, over-logo’ed is often better than the naked speedo look! ![]()
Every time I’m at a race and I see someone with all the fake tattoos plastered all over them selves, I wonder are they getting paid for that?

I am not a fan of the temp tattoo thing either but logos in general don’t bother me. It is just simply a fact of life now in everything. If I went around taking off logos etc from everything I own I wouldn’t have time to do much else. Are people who are anti logo on tri clothing anti logo on everything else? What about my street clothes, car, laptop? Do you black out logos on your running shoes? Original post mentions the P3, what are you supposed to do get it repainted?
I never understand the effort to rid the world of logos in sport or otherwise. I don’t really care. I have some clothes from Hammer Nutrition. I like the product and it is better than wearing some basic top and bottom so what difference does it make? Entirely too much effort going into worrying about what other people race in.
When pro cycling goes logoless (new word) I will too;)
