I have the stock easton Vista wheels (1797g, 30mm of “parabolic aero section”) on my Cervelo P2SL, I was given a pair of new Shimano WH-7801 SL wheels (1560g, bladed spokes). Is it worth swapping out the wheels for my races. (I know I should get zipps or Hed but for now am gonna stick with what i have). Would the 230 grams make a difference?)
just wondering if anyone has an opinion.
neither one is really aero so I would use the lighter one, 1/2 pounds difference in rolling weight.
ok, that makes sense…thanks
.
Do you think half a pound differencein rolling weight would make a significant time difference in a 70.3 race, all other things being equal?

What’s your definition of “significant?” Under my definition, I’d say “no, it won’t.”
Minutes, not seconds

I can’t imagine it would make more than a minute or two difference, if that, even.
Consider how many pounds you’re going to add to the bike just by getting on it. Then, having a couple of full water bottles, plus your nutrition, plus spare tube(s), levers, CO2 cartridges, etc. A half pound just isn’t going to make that much difference.
Go with the wheels that make you look cooler.
You are forgetting where that half pound is, it’s turning round and round by his power, so YES 1/2 lb will make a difference, however will you see a significant difference, NO. But guess what, Easton Vista’s arent going to either, all they will do is make him work harder and I’m no engineer, but I dont see how those wheels have any aero advantage, they are far too shallow.

Well, actually, I’m not forgetting. You and I agree, it won’t make a ***significant ***difference. I didn’t say it wouldn’t make a difference at all.

Right there with you on this one.
Bottom line: The two choices of wheels will not be measurably different, so I stand by my original advice: Pick the ones that make you look coolest.
