Which wheel

1st sprint race moderate hills. Hed 3 on front . Would you use a disk oe hed 3 on back ? It’s a “C” race. How much difference over 18 miles in time do you think there could/would be.

According to Jim Martin/John Cobb in the book “High Performance Cycling”, they claim a disc will save a 200 watt rider about 12 seconds over 40 kms over a trispoke. 18 miles is about 30 kms or so, so your saving should be only about nine seconds.

I always thought a disc would be faster than this, but not according to their data. Don’t know of any other tests specific to disc/trispoke.

Thanks! This doesn’t mean i have to quit picking on you does it ; )

denewone,

Were this a TDF time trial and the steepest grades were less than 6% you can bet Lance and company would be riding discs with tri spokes. Why do you think that would be? Because it would slow him down? Not.

BTW On our last Monday night club ride, we overtook two riders from the north who often hook up with us on our Monday night ride. The one was riding his disc/rear and some kind of Cosmic Carbone/Zipp 404 type wheel I did not recognize on the front. No trispoke. I think that is because I have never seen him on a trispoke. I don’t think he has one. He weighs in the 165-175 lbs range. The wind was out of the west at about 15-25 mph. He didn’t appear to have any control problems or difficulty. We were riding 22-27 mph on the way out (west) and 33-36 mph on the way back. He didn’t just stick with us, he was putting the hurt to us!

Sure hope not!!

go with the disc. it’s the fastest
