20-30mph gusts tomorrow along the seawall in Galveston. I have an 808 front. I am pretty small at 5’9" 150lbs. Never raced with winds that high.
omg that will suck.
If you are not comfortable with the 808 in those winds, ride something with a lower profile. The stress you’ll have about your safety will probably be a bigger factor than the potential time savings if you ride the 808. Less stress about crashing, etc is better on race day. Plenty of other things to be thinking about.
run less in front…
808 in the back, but consider a semi-aero wheel (ex. 28mm alum rim) up front. I’m 180, and even a 50mm up front would be questionable.
What’s the worst that happens? The wind could just pick you up and drop you off at the end of the bike course. ![]()
dual discs f&r. If you think about it, the wind pushes you right, you steer left, the wind is actually pushing you forward. just like tacking on a boat, for record bike splits.
