I’m racing Vineman next weekend and looked at the course profile. Looks pretty flat and fair. Could anyone with some experience of the course recommend the best wheel choice.
Front - I have a Hed3 and a 58mm Zipp - both tubular. I was leaning toward the Hed, although the Zipp is about 200g lighter.
Rear - I have a Hed Alps tubular, although I may be able to borrow a disk or Hed3. How much would it help on this course.
SatMark, I don’t know where you’re from so I’m unsure what you consider “flat and fair”. That being said, I’ve done Vineman a half dozen times or so each time on Zipp 404’s. Each time I’ve wished I had a disc on the back. The only “climb” per se is Chalk Hill at about the 43-45 mile mark and the rest of course, while not EagleMan flat, is what I would refer to as rolling. Rolling hills, to me, mean that they are hills that you can stay down in your aerobars in. Chalk Hill is (for me) a climb that I need to sit or stand up for depending on how the legs feel.
