Which side do you run on?

I always run against. This is even more important now with text messaging. It allows you to see the driver, in many cases, if they are paying attention or texting.

This is really important when you are on back roads where people even more text while driving. I guess because they think there will be little traffic.

But then again, I could get hit head on too.

True.

When I was running more and running a lot on the shoulder of roads facing traffic, I always found it interesting how many cars did not actually see me until the last second. Not that I was playing chicken or anything. I was running safely and appropriately on the shoulder, but as the car would approach they would then make that last second reactive swerve away from me, like they had just seen me at the last second. How is it that they could not see the 6’2" guy running along the road, right at them, supposedly right in their field of view, for over 200m, wearing the day-glo neon running top/jacket?? Scary!

text while driving

What level of intelligence( or lack of more likely) believes that this is something safe to do?

Common sense would lead one to know, that it’s quite obviously something that should never be done.

.

run on the grassy median, then traffic direction is irrelevent, and you get a softer surface

I run with traffic when doing a neighborhood recovery run, but the traffic is so slow and light there that the cars all drive down the middle of the road anyways.

always against, it’s saved my life more than once… can see the idiots coming and take evasive action. Situational awareness is vital…

I always run for good. Which side do you run for?

I always run against unless coming up to a blind hill…then if the road is clear I switch to the “with” side so a car doesn’t come flying over the top and surprise me and the driver.

Generally against, but if I’m doing an out and back route on a heavily cambered road I’ll stay on the same side both ways, against traffic in one direction and with traffic in the other. Helps prevent hip, knee and ankle tweaks.

If I’m doing speed work then I run IN traffic, really gives me that extra motivation to perform.

Always run against and bike with. the only caveat to this was back in my HS cross county days we would cross over if we came to a steep hill where the driver would not be able to see us at the crest.

I’d add to that situations where you’re approaching an intersection where a car could turn right quickly into the lane in which you’re running. i always try to avoid getting stuck like that.

otherwise, i tend to run against traffic.
i don’t think that this is nearly as big a factor as it is w/biking.

I always run for good. Which side do you run for?
