I’ve got my first major race of the season coming up this weekend.
I’m basically undertrained, and I’m going mainly because I’ve already paid. I think I’ve averaged about 10hrs/week since New Years, so I’m not expecting any personal bests. I’ve gone through the motions and done the longish workouts, including a couple of 80-100 mile rides and 15-18 mile runs.
Here’s the question: Given these circumstances, would you wear Asics Kayanos or DS Trainers for the run? I do 99% of my training in the Kayanos, but I know the Trainers are faster.
If you must ask, I’m 6 feet tall and weigh 146 pounds. No major injuries in the last year. I wear hard orthotics in both shoes.
Humm, you must be doing Liberty, which I am also doing. I’ll tell you what I did last year. I got the ds after liberty after researching about “faster/lighter” shoes…and wore them for waconia/lifetime/steelhead, and clearwater. They just make you feel so fast that if you think that your run training is at a good point I’d wear them (ie not peaking yet but decent run milage). Also, the liberty course is just smooth pavement for the most part so I wouldn’t be worried about having extra support or anything. See you saturday.
Run in whatever shoe you have used for that distance and conditions. I just ran the World’s Toughest Half run in old T4s without socks. I have done it in practice though, so I was not worried. As it turns out, I did get a blister on one toe from the steep downhills, but it did not slow me down in the race.
