I think I might be buying the hype and ready to buy a pair of these, but I’m not sure which model is for me. I have medium to low arches and normally wear Asics 2110’s or Mizuno Wave Inspire’s. I already run on my forefoot. Which Newtons are the right models for me?
Jon.
I trained in th 2110, the brooks GTS 6, and raced in Asics DS Trainers. I picked up a pair of the Stability racers… i figured I’d try them and race in them if i liked them. Great purchase… great shoe.
The most expensive ones are faster. Wait! The racers are cheaper, they’re faster. No…
Thanks - do you wear the same size in Asics and in Newtons and does the arch still hit you in the same place?
I like the original fig newtons the best. Although I tend to buy the generic fat free ones most often.
Strawberry ones are pretty dope too…
.
Hey. This is serious.
I like the strawberry ones too. They are addictive. I have to eat them with milk which kind of kills the low calorie purpose.
yes… they run the same as last years asics and the current trainers… (the new DS Trainers run small)
They run the same size as Adidas and Asics for me.
Seriously - I love the new cushioned model. Tried the racers, but they just felt a bit too light for me (I’m a ‘neutral’ runner). The stability model were not quite for me either - don’t need the stiffer sole. First time I ran in them off the bike the shoes felt like I was just taking off and they really helped me stay ‘out of the back seat’ when I got tired, meaning, they helped maintain a forward run position.
Jon:
The difference between the Gravity & the Motion (stability) looks like only ~0.2oz, but even so with the description you gave of your feet I would recommend the Gravity. The Distance racers are even lighter, but most of that seems to be in/around the heel cup area, so I’d go with the Gravity for a little more durability. Also, my sizing has been identical to Asics and Nike models, if that helps.
Have fun with them – they’re definitely worth a closer look.

Thanks Mike (I think) - your blog on Opentri convinced me to give them a tri and spend a ton of money for sneakers. Plus Jen figured if you were recommending them, maybe they are a good idea. But, the only downside to having my wife into triathlon too: she wanted a pair also! I contacted the company and they recommended the motions for me; I got Jen the Gravity.
Another triathlete in the house = more triathlon expenses – don’t I know it! ![]()
Now you & Jen will have to put 'em through their paces, and determine where the benefits are for you. I’m still adapting a bit, but definitely notice where they help on the track, on tempo runs, and on the longer stuff as well. My run at Eagleman was a fairly easy effort, and I went about 10min faster than the hot-as-blazes day in '05.
We’ll get more data on Saturday – see you then!

Jen and I did not sign up for Wyckoff in time, so we won’t see you there. So the Newton test will have to wait. We’ve got Anthracite Olympic Distance in Pa in July, Cleveland Olympic Distance in early August, and though we said we were not going long, we could not resist the new 101 race in Nova Scotia in September.
