Which is crazier: Me in the middle of LP swim start or

So, Sheri and I survived LP. I raced (12:21, 21min shy of goal, rr later) and she volunteered (3 shifts, started at 7:30 and ended just shy of midnight).

And the ‘Thanks for putting up with my s%$#/Happy Anniversary’ trip started on Monday. After checking out of LP, we loaded up the rental and headed to Manhattan to find her ‘expo/swag’ on Madison and 5th. Let’s focus on this point, I DROVE into Manhattan. Hell, I’m not safe driving to the post office in suburban Atlanta. It was the four-wheeled version of the mass swim start from Sunday morning. She kept saying ‘Ya know, if you’re not sure where you’re going, then maybe you shouldn’t be going 80 and racing all of these cabs’. I couldn’t hear her. I was screaming ‘ON YOUR LEFT’ at everybody, learned that one from heading into Keene at 80 mph with 20 feet of visibility and foggy glasses. Believe it or not, we got to the hotel (Empire), despite what the bitch on the GPS said.

Then, (and if you knew us, you would appreciate how funny this is) we parked in the middle of the street so I could run into this hotel to see if I was in the right place. Too much red carpet and too many photographers at the door. I strolled up to a paparazzi and asked him if this was the Empire Hotel and what was going on. “Yes it is, and somebody big is coming by” he said. So, I showed my silver bracelet and I said “I’m here!” He pretended to snap the photo, I think. So, exhausted, we unpacked the car (still in the middle of Columbus Ave.) and we strolled past the velvet ropes to check in and ask a few questions. We were informed that, since we were guests of the hotel, we had access to the night’s big MAXIM premiere after-party on the roof for the movie ‘Stepbrothers’ and that the whole cast, including Will Ferrell, would be there with the Maxim hostesses. So, you know exactly what we did from there…

Hey Chris! Its was great to meet you and Sheri! BTW, ya got me by just short of seven minutes…wait till next time!

BTW, I think we need a photo of you doing a recovery ride in Chinatown.

Enjoy the city and have fun! The two of you deserve it!!!

Sounds good, look forward to hangin’ out next time!

Chris,
It was great to meet you and Sheri and many other STers at Placid. Besides seeing you pass me on the bike, I also saw Terry out there.
What a freaking crazy, epic day it was. Huge Congrats for toughing it out.
Now, when is Sheri going to do an Ironman :)?
Stacy

She laughing as I type this.

I’m working on her, but today she gets to focus on her endurance event- shopping in Manhattan.

I LOVE that hotel. I surprised my girlfriend on NYE by taking her to NYC for the first time and we stayed there and I couldn’t have been happier. I’m a snobby, picky SOB and even I left happy. There’s a great little restaurant Gabriel’s down the street off of W 60th, if you don’t already have reservations somewhere else it’s fantastic. Enjoy your stay.

Thanks for the tip. We’re here til Fri afternoon. I’ll try to get us in there.

Sandy Springs, eh?

I thought traffic in Atlanta would be good training grounds for NYC. Wrong.

Yeah, I live just a mile from Columns over off of Riverside.

I agree, I am totally used to Atlanta traffic, but NYC is a different feel to it. It’s not that bad I don’t think, it’s just very different. I hope you guys have an amazing time, considering the plans I’m sure she will for sure.
