Hed - lentiuclar.
zipp 808. spokes are under rated, and discs are over rated.
I guess out of these options I would choose the Renn. The Hed is not only not superlight, it’s heavy, and the Bontrager is really expensive. I have never heard of Gray before so I can’t comment. Maybe you should consider adding Blackwell (older Zipp) and Zipp to the list.
I’m happy with the Renn I bought this year.
I’ve tried most of them all, Campy Ghibli, HED, HED3d, Zipp, J-Disc and Renn. By far the best were/are Zipp and the HED3d. I currently have the Zipp (non-dimpled). The regular Hed was OK but flexy and easily damamged, the HED3d was totally bombproof and as fast as the rest and the Renn was OK but I could flex it into the stays and dented easily, the Ghibli was fast and did not dent as easily as the others. All have goods and bads about them. If I had no disk and had to buy another…I’d stay with the Zipp. Even an older non-dimpled is great. Another Ghibli would be awesome but at $2300 is a tad high.
The difference in speed between them is very little…any of them are fast.
Does Hed make a disc that is not lenticular?
I agree, if I had a bunch of $$$ laying around, I would get a zipp. No question. Since thats not how im livin, I got a RENN this year and really like it.
Not any more. The Hed3d was flat(except for the spokes), but now all of their discs are lenticular I believe. Their new 900 gram disc is supposed to have a shape similar to the new contrager.
Money no object = Zipp
Money is a concern = Renn.
FTR, I have a set a Zipp 404’s, a Hed Kona 3D, and a Renn disc. Zipp manufactures an outstanding product, I just couldn’t justify the price difference between the Renn disc and the Zipp disc. I roll on 650’s and I’m not big/strong enough for flex to be an issue.
get a Planet X 82 and get a wheelcover.
