Which Cervelo? gerard feel free to chime in

I am thinking about upgrading my bike and I have 2 options and can’t decide what to do. If I sell my road bike I can swing the soloist w dura ace or I could keep my road bike and get a p2ksl w ultegra. I do 90% of my riding by myself but do enjoy getting ride with others occasionally so I have ruled out getting a tri only bike. What do you think the pro’s and con’s are of each bike. I’m only doing sprints this year but I plan on going longer next year and working up to an IM in 4-5 years. Which bike would you choose and why?

Personally I went with your second option last spring. Kept my roadie and got a P2K. I think its the best option because it offers the most flexibility. Plus I’m not sold on paying more for the dura ace parts that are lighter but also wear out more quickly and cost more to replace. For me the weight difference isn’t worth the price.

Keep the road bike … buy the P2k - SL w/ Ultegra … you’ll enjoy having both bikes

I have a P2K and a road bike. My friend sold his P2K and road bike to purchase a Soloist and is convinced it’s the way to go, but he group rides quite a bit. If you ride solo a lot the P2K and keeping the road bike may be better for you.

Tough choice.

I have both bikes, but I spend a lot of time in group riding and road racing so the P2k is just sitting there not getting much action. If I rode solo and plan on racing tris of any distance I would definitely buy a P2k (actually I would get the Dual with extra set of wheels, race wheels if I did it all again), tris are what its built for and it serves its purpose very well.

I have a P2K with Ult9 on it and an old school steel road bike w/ DA9 on it. Having both bikes is great, I ride the road bike quite a bit and race on my TT bike and ride it a few times a year to get used to it before a race. I would have both bikes, plus if anything ever goes wrong with one, you can still go ride. Or if you are like me, you can procrastinate and fix the other a week later and still train.

You are all gerard’s b*tches.

And you want to be my latex salesman?!

I’m actually an architect, and don’t want to get into that business. Thanks for the offer, though. ; }

"You are all gerard’s b*tches. "

This coming from a man with his pants around his ankles!

Why not a city planner? The Van Buren Boys would approve! Remember the first season when it was Art Corvelay?

Pants around the ankles! Don’t get me started! Clearly a successful importer/exporter and architect like myself does not have his pants around his ankles!

What happened to your import/export business?

It was that judge that ended it all, using my name nonetheless.

Thank you for not damaging our sensabilities by writing out the word “bitches”. That asterisk really softens the blow.

Yeah, well, I’m quite the comedian as well. As you can obviously tell.

Plus I’m not sold on paying more for the dura ace parts that are lighter but also wear out more quickly and cost more to replace.
Dura Ace parts wear out more quickly? Where did you hear that?

Sell your road bike, buy a cervelo 2.5 with Chorus and a Dual. Problem solved! (I just bought the 2.5 a day ago and am going to pick up the Dual in a couple of months).

Listen to me, you know you want to.

Depends a bit on the current road bike of course (will it last a few more years) but in general I would say that if you can afford two bikes, go for it. Keep the road bike and get the P2 SL. You can always replace the road bike with a Soloist a few years from now.

Absolutely keep the road bike & get the P2K. I split my riding time about evenly between my Calfee road bike and my P2K. Easy rides, endurance, hilly rides and group rides are done on the road bike. Tempo, intervals, and time trials are done on the P2K. Much easier to have both bikes than swap a soloist for both road and tri/tt use. Also easier to get a good aero position on the P2 than the soloist. And the performance difference between DA & Ultegra is tiny, a half pound or so.
