I had the Shure E2c’s which were great while they lasted but now they crackle and have low sound. Any other’s that people are using for running etc.?
I think these are hard to beat for a cheap pair of headphones. The cable is pretty robust, and it’s replaceable. I really don’t think there’s anything out there this accurate in the $100.00 price range.
I’ve had a couple of different $100 headphones for running and neither of them lasted more than a few months. I’ve come to the conclusion that my running headphones need to be 1) cheap and 2) the kind that sit outside the ear. The in-the-canal ones just get too much sweat on them and eventually stop working. I bought some cheapo $12 outside the ear headphones that have lasted more than a year now. Sound isn’t great but it is good enough…and they never clog with sweat or feel uncomfortable. And I can hear traffic and such better.
I love my Bose in ear headphones. They aren’t cheap, but the sound is great and they are comfortable.
Agreed, headphones aren’t supposed to be exposed to sweat and the beating a run can give it.
Also I’d rather be able to hear the surroundings, but if you are using this for a treadmill, I can understand why you want noise canceling.
Best bet, in my opinion, is get headphones that sit outside the ear, preferably the ones that hook around your ear.
Don’t spend more than $30.
Realize it doesn’t help the original question, but my 2 cents

Noise canceling… oh you’re asking for it. You might get run over by a car or hit by a bike because you are wearing those. It’ll be like you are running blind.

Until this past April I had never been able to find anthing that worked well. Most fell out of my ear after a couple of hundred yards of running. The in-ear buds blocked out too much noise for me to feel comfortable with running on the streets. Then I got a pair of Oakley THumps and they work perfectly. You can adjust how close they are to your ear to get near noise cancelling effect, or leave them backed out a bit so that you can still hear the street above your music. Plus no wires to mess with. For runs at dusk or at night, I just pop the lenses out and run using the frame alone.
Sennheiser CX300’s work well for me. Great sound (reviews I read said nearly as good as your Shures) but a fraction of the cost. They retail for about $40 or you can get them off ebay for much less. The sounds is bassier and more detailed than the original ipod 'phones. I’m on my 2nd pair. The first pair lasted about a year of hard use then the wire to one ear got loose.

These are great. Stay in your ear, decent sound. I wouldn’t recommend noise cancelling while running… could be dangerous.

I agree. When running outdoors, I always adjust my MP3 player so I can hear my feet hitting the ground. That way, I have a pretty good chance of hearing potential dangers.
I have not seen any noise canceling headphones that are small. All the noise canceling headphones require electronics and a battery to do the noise canceling. I have not seen any that are suitable for running.
And the Shure E2c are not noise canceling headphones.
Do you want **Noise Canceling **or Noise Isolating headphones?
A very timely topic for me as well. I am leaning toward the Bose in-ear headphone but I’ll wait and see how this plays out.

I have used the Sony ($50) white model for 3 yrs or so with never any issues. They offer great sound and fit great.

Thanks everyone. I ended up going on ebay and got 2 pairs of CX300’s for $15 each!!! I meant noise isolating not cancelling. Since I run on trails, the only danger I will face is running into a cougar. Not a likely scenerio.
