Used to be, several ST’ers (including yours truly) would post daily updates from IM’s. I haven’t seen any recounts of last night’s ST meeting at the brewpub, or anyone bubbling about the atmosphere in LP, etc. What’s going on IMLP’ers?
It’s raining…again.
very quiet ! Not any smack talk. I am driving up in the morning. have a lifeguard meeting at 11 am .
Thom
Used to be…
The Pear Shapes have taken over.
It stopped raining…for now…
Well, I just drove over today, pulled in, registered, went for a 30 min swim, went and had soggy pasta in a humid tent with 3000 people while the skies opened up in a torrential downpour. So really not much time to post anything of any value. Between work being so busy, and the TdF being so exciting, have not had much time to get psyched about this race…and Ventoux yet to come tomorrow!
For what it is worth, WTC announced a 3 year deal with the town of Lake Placid that was announced at the dinner. Race will stay here till 2012! Next year, the plan is Ironman France or Alp d’Huez tri plus some euro touring and watching the TdF.
But first Sunday IMLP number 10.

Thanks for the report Dev and others! Man, another rainy IMLP? Did the town sign a deal with the weather gods too?
Glad to hear about the deal that the town has locked down with WTC. You knew something like that was coming when WTC was selling IMLP slots at Rhode Island!
The weather gods have not been nice. Mostly cloudy and humid, constant threat of rain – quite the mood killer. People biking and running everywhere clogging the streets. Granted, I’m not in Slowtwitch* approved physical condition, but there were a lot of out of shape people riding the full bike course today instead of driving. Not sure what they’re thinking. Not sure what the hell I was thinking when I signed up for this, as my training fell apart when my first was born mid-April. I’m still excited for it, but looking at it as a great training day for Timberman in 4 weeks. I’m out to enjoy the day, not kill myself.
Last nights meet up at the Pub was fun as usual. I went up for the EnduranceNation dinner before hand. We had about 20 people total but like a total jackass I forgot to take a picture. When I pulled into town yesterday it did not seems as crowded as it has the past couple of years but it might have just been the timing.
Forgot a bunch of handles of the folks I had not met before but at the Pub were myself, thenicetwin and co, MTLrunner and the crew from MTL, Swimlinz, Parkito, some dudes from epicman whos names I always forget, Rich Strauss and Patrick McCrann and a bunch of other EN Folks, Lisbeth and Todd from TTbikefit.com. Good time for all.
Going back up in the am to ride 100 or so with the EN guys, maybe swim and then get prepared to drink beer, volunteer and spectate.
Thanks Chris. Did your kids do the “Kid’s Run” again? And no pic??? You know ST rules- pics or it didn’t happen
Missed the mandatory meeting…no transportation…ohhh well (great place to have a meeting 2 miles outside of town?). Swam, biked, and ran a bit of the course today…got rained on and loved it, seriously I hope it rains. Swim tomorrow mornin in the a.m. run a lil’ bit and call er’ a day. Best of luck to all of the competitors…

Uh, you are a triathlete, about to do an IM, and you have “no transportation”??
That spendy 2-wheeled thing w/ the funny looking bars on it would probably work ok, ya think?

It was pouring before and during the meeting so biking there was out of the question…plus I have no clue where I woulda put my bike during the meeting. Big day tomorrow so we’ll see how the race pans out…time for a shower, shave, pizza, relax, then bedtime. Good luck everyone!
the atmosphere seems rather subdued this year.
the expo is smaller, such usuals as Endless Pool and Fuel Belt missing.
used to look forward to sign on interstate before Keene Valley exit announcing
IRONMAN Sunday Expect Delays…it said ROAD RACE Sunday…same thing coming
in from Saranac.
Banners that used to hang from all hotels and restaurants missing too.
Goodie bag was pretty poor but then I am from NH and have been spoiled by
Keith and Endorfun.
The bike transition area seemed to be have fewer bike racks and more empty
spaces on the racks.
Haven’t had to wait at any restaurant.
As usual it’s been a a hectic few days.

Nineteen wetsuit demos went well. I think we set a record for number of demos. Thanks to all those folks who dropped by and tested suits.
-
MissP is all set. Some light training for her. We have tried a bit of a different taper this time and we’ll see how it goes. She’s in the best form of her life.
-
Town is buzzing and the hype and the madness is building.
-
Some talk about all the negative talk before the race. But the contract extension has been signed and that’s a great thing.
-
Weather has been a mixed bag, threatening rain but it has only really rained once( last night around 6:00pm). Race day is supposed to be more of the same - chance of showers but if it does not rain - ideal weather.
-
Women’s race has the prospects of being very exciting. There are a number of women all around the same level and in good form. It’s a question of who can put it together on race day. Men, I am not so sure about. I think the women’s field is “Better”.
-
Some of the worst pavement on the bike loop has been re-paved. Glass smooth. There are some rough patch here and there.
-
Could not make the ST meet-n-greet. Had two other competeing things going on.
-
Seems strange for me personally to be at an Ironman race that Graham Fraser is not at - this is the first one for me since 1989!!
-
There have been some big changes in the managment structure, but for the most part it’s still the same key people in key roles and they are all the best at what they do, so everything should run smoothly as usual. RD Jeff Edwards has things well in hand. Best wishes to him and his team tommorow.
-
Some substantial changes behind the scenes, but I will not go into detail aboyt that now.
-
I heard that over half the race is first timers. Wow!
-
Just got back in from a 60K spin on part of the course( and some sweet roads off the course) and there were a ton of people out on the loop training. Obviously not doing the race.
-
Spoke to Mike Reilly at a Party the other night. He’s in great form. You’ll all get the royal treatment at the finishline.
-
I am now relaxing with a beer and with my feet up for the first time in three days after my ride.
-
Long day tommorow. Spectating and support can be tired and stressful!
-
Best wishes to everyone racing.
Hope this is enough hype for you!

Given your first statement, it would not surprise me in the least that a lot of the people on the course are racing tomorrow.
Well, race starts in around 10 hours, and frankly, I suppose I feel like I got to my personal finish line simply by being in a position to be on the start line. 5 months ago I had a broken ankle and was hobbling around on crutches and not sure I could run. Things came around pretty quickly, but because of the set back, I had no expectations…just try to do some solid short racing and get to LP so that I could do my 10th Lake Placid. So we’ll see what the day brings tomorrow. I had some solid bike training through May and June and good run speed work and some reasonably solid short racing ranging from 10K to half Ironman over the past 3 months. Work has been stupid busy, so this IM has been on the backburner on the priority list through July. I’ll be playing out the day in 10 minute increments and then we’ll see how hard I can push run loop 2. 10 years ago, I did a 10:36 here, so I will take anything in that range…combined T1 + T2 better be under 6 minutes and hopefully closer to 5.
If anyone wants to track, 1238.

To all of you doing IMLP, enjoy and have fun.
Fred.
I’m sure you’re all in bed now, but best wishes for a safe race tomorrow!
