Where would you be without triathlon?

I would be passed out in a ditch from drinking too much the night before…What a great sport this is with great people. It really is hard to imagine what I would be putting my energy into without triathlon…

Glad to hear that you aren’t face down in a ditch - I’ve often wondered how that would feel.

As for me, I’d be doing pretty much the same but with a lot less swimming.

Lifting weights. Trying to turn a greyhound into a pitbull.

I would be doing a lot less swimming also. Plus have a few more bucks in my pocket.

Married, kids, house, white picket fence, SUV, career, 401(k), medical, dental, vision, 52 inch HDTV, 6.1 surround THX certified, 38 inch waist.

I’d probably have an additional 14hrs/week of free time, and I’d probably have an additional 5k in my pocket (it’s been less than a year).

I’d also have 15 or so more heart beats in a minute. I’d also probably be wearing an additional 15 pounds of more fat than muscle.

Without triathlon, I’d be lifting pretty regularly; but I wouldn’t be running.

I would be about 80 pounds heavier and still have a 4 handicap in golf. That is how much I have lost in the past 4 years since I started doing tri’s. My handicap has gone up about 5, but oh well.

Right there with you - a drunk, dead or close to it and alone
.

I have no idea what my golf handicap has ballooned to- I’m afraid to pick up a club nowadays. My weight, however, (like yours) has dropped 50 pounds in 4 years. I’ll take that trade-off any day.

Me, too. I’d be doing more duathlons, marathons, and the odd bike race.

I wouldn’t drink any more or less than I do now. Would be a recreational bike rider and x-country skier. Wouldn’t swim much except when scuba diving and wouldn’t run at all.

Would also be about 10 lbs heavier.

A lot richer money-wise. A lot poorer, friends-wise. I probably wouldn’t have had the great travel adventures that I’ve had either.

Dead.

I’d probably be single (one of the things that brought my husband and I together was our interest in triathlon), running more marathons, not swimming at all, and spending more time with the kids but enjoying it less!

Turning my OCD toward something else.

DEAD LITERALLY!! This adventure called triathlon has saved my life. Had a surgical mishap and was told if I hadn’t been in the physical condition I would not have survived(recieved 39 units of blood and other componants among other problems) So triathlon is my hero.

We agree again! (I knew we had stuff in common!)

Besides more $$, fewer friends and less travel & fun, I’d be sitting at home whining about the fact that my 18 yr old daughter will be leaving home soon and my 16 yr old son doesn’t need me anymore.

Thanks to triathlon, I have no time for empty nest issues!

Yup dead would be a strong possibility, less happy, not as motivated, and I’d say more $$ if bypass was not so expensive.

My pastor asked me once how I justify the risk (cycling), I replied, “Greater risk sitting on the couch.”

and my 16 yr old son doesn’t need me anymore.<<

Sure he does. He just doesn’t want to let on though.

clm, with a 16 yo nephew

You’re probably right…who else would be willing to appreciate his barely-visible-to-the-naked-eye upper lip fuzz and tell him the secrets of parallel parking?
