If Trump wins re-elect, where will Buttigieg transition to or will he stay Mayor?
His town hall this weekend was impressive, good start for him to start to make a name for himself as he has a long way to go before the primaries next spring.
Though he is very young, he has more experience than our current president so I do not consider his experience a limiting factor. Former military service helps him out. Being openly gay can be a tough battle to overcome, but after he came out he won his mayor election by a landslide.
Is South Bend typical of the conservative population in Indiana?

But where it would really hurt won’t vote for him anyway. 39% of republican voters say they’ll never vote for a LGBT candidate. Only 17% of registered democrats and 19% of independent voters.
Guessing he might run for senate, then take whatever job Biden offers him…I think if Biden wins, it will look very similar to the stage of republicans in the last election. Lots of them getting spots in the new administration, or huge pushes in what they choose to do, event the ones who’s fathers help assassinate Kennedy, or were too thirsty all the time…

I agree but not sure how former military service helps him out. I think a lot of people accept that at face value but in terms of Presidential elections, it doesn’t seem to help. Kerry was beaten by Bush, McCain was beaten by Obama. McCain was loudly criticized by Trump for his war efforts and Republicans largely sat on the sidelines and remained silent.
If America can elect Donald Trump as President anything can happen of course but he’s not going to win President anytime soon. He’ll be offered a Cabinet position if the Dems win and if Trump wins, he’ll continue as mayor and try again in 2024.
A lefty war vet calling out a Republican President for draft dodging. These are strange times we’re living in.
WASHINGTON — Pete Buttigieg accused President Donald Trump on Thursday of exploiting his privileged upbringing to “fake a disability” during the Vietnam War so that “somebody could go to war in his place.”
Buttigieg, who served in Afghanistan as a Navy intelligence officer, sought to use his own military background to draw a sharp contrast with Trump during a “Washington Post Live” interview. Pressed on whether he believed that Trump, who cited bone spurs in his heel to be exempted from the draft, had a disability, Buttigieg suggested he did not — “at least not that one.”
“If you’re a conscientious objector, I’d admire that,” said Buttigieg, the South Bend, Indiana, mayor and Democratic 2020 contender. “But this is somebody who, I think it’s fairly obvious to most of us, took advantage of the fact that he was the child of a multimillionaire in order to pretend to be disabled so that somebody could go to war in his place.”…
“I don’t have a problem standing up to somebody who was you know working on season 7 of Celebrity Apprentice when I was packing my bags for Afghanistan,” Buttigieg also said.
I am going to assume he was at least raised Christian, so there is no way a white, Christian, male, mass murderer (military) gets nominated for President by the current Dem party. He’s “only” gay, kind of like being “only” black. Not high enough on the left’s inter-sectional hierarchy.

Good observation. Probably explains why Biden is doing so poorly in the polls.

Yup, he’s benefiting from name recognition, support from the old guard dems, and very limited media coverage so far.
But mark my words, no straight, old, white guy is getting the nomination. Especially since AOC has already condemned his approach to the climate crisis.
I’m not a big fan, but I think he’s the safe choice this go round, and Dems want Trump out at any cost, and despite his prior run record, he’s probably the right choice for that. But he’ll need some energy on his ticket, which will almost certainly check that intersectionality box.
It definitely won’t be a straight white man. Biden is strong with the AA vote, but he needs one on the ticket. Politics and policy aside, Sen Harris checks that box better than anyone.
