I know this is a pretty silly questions to ask, but I have my reasons…
I’ve not eaten red meat for almost three years now, I quite eating it due to high cholesterol (which I have under under control with diet and exercise). The thing I miss the most are burgers. I want to treat myself to a burger after IM Louisville, this will be a one time thing, after that it’s back to no red meat. So I want to make this count…where will I find the best burger in Louisville???
I remember watching the IM Louisville TV coverage last year and Maximilian LongrEe requested a burger at the end of his race (someone actually had it for him at the end)…he said it was “the best burger in the world”, anyone recall where that burger came form?
Immediately after an Ironman, it could have been a Big Mac and tasted really good.
Yes, true, but it SO does not have to be! If you do you might want to check the nutritional values …"
Loved the last quote off the google search! Yes, it’s a chain but they are a DC institution. Never had a bad burger at one.
I once went several years without a burger and maybe two steaks. I was traveling and starving one evening and ate a Big Mac as the golden arches was the only place around. It was so freaking good. I now eat red meat several time a month. Be ready for the burger to make you a little sick.
Try Red Robin Looks like there are two in Louisville: http://www.redrobin.com/default.aspx Mall St. Matthews (502)899-9001 5000 Shelbyville Road, #1627 Louisville, KY 40207 Sun-Thurs: 11a-10p; Fri-Sat: 11a-11p !(/images/spacer.gif)!(/images/locate/btn_menu.gif)!(/images/locate/btn_dir.gif) !(/images/spacer.gif) Brownsboro Crossing (502)339-8616 9870 Von Allmen Court Louisville, KY 40241 Sun-Thu: 11a-10p,

Five Guys is great! I used to live in DC and whenever I am back there I try to stop in and get a burger. But, as a native and current Californian, I still am partial to In-N-Out.
The english pub at the finish line has an amazing roasted red pepper and goat cheese burger. Come across the line, walk in the door order a pint and 15 minutes later you are in burger heaven.
If you have a car, then I would try one of 2 places:
1.Cumberland Brews: best local brewery. Bison burger with sauteed mushrooms and blue cheese crumbles. Get sweet potatoe fries, and an order of jerk chicken wings. For the beer, if they have any of their IPA’s, E S Bunkass, or Mr. Bitters, get them. Or, a Nitro Porter.
Flanagan’s Ale House: bison mignon burger. bacon wrapped, cheddar cheese, mushrooms. Great beer selection.
Both are on Bardstown Road, a few miles from downtown.
Five Guys is good, but The Pub has AWESOME burgers and it’s right at the finish line. Also has an exceptional collection of British beers and ciders.
(Great fried pickles, too)
If you are a risk taker ~ Ginny’s Diner and the Sweet Daddy Burger. I went once and shared a 1/2 with Squid and we never went back! It was a $20 burger 15-20 years ago and frightening to look at…3 grilled patties each 1/2-2/3 lb. You’ll swear off burgers for awhile after so call it aversion therapy!
Just checked out The Pub menu: The Over Easy Burger sounds awesome!!!
Over Easy Burger * $9.75
The Classic (8 oz. Angus beef burger, onion bun , lettuce, tomato, and onion) topped with a rasher, pepper jack cheese and an over easy egg.
I just got back from a trip to Northern Vietnam (it was FANTASTIC) Loved the people, the scenery and mostly the food.
I was in Sapa, in NW vietnam, near the Chinese border. We’d been in country for a few days and I wanted something western to eat. We ended up in a small local restaurant near our hotel one evening. We trolled through the menu and settled on a burger, fries and a beer. It wasn’t some real local place (bit scary looking into some kitchens and seeing them chopping meat on the floor) but was mainly a Vietnamese food place with a bit of western stuff to fill the menu.
The burger was far and away the best burger that I have ever tasted, in 48 years of testing burgers. I’m not sure what kind of meat it was, but it was called beef. Could have been bat shit for all I know, but I reckon it was the best bat shit I have ever tasted. Sure beats beef! LOL The patty was the perfect size and shape, filling the bun just so. The meat was slightly charred on the outside, but nice and juicy on the inside, with the slightest hint of pink. Not dripping with juices/grease, but just super tasty and moist. The bun was a typically sweetened bun that they seem to like in SE Asia, but matched the burger patty perfectly.
So, if you want the best burger ever, got to Sapa in north Vietnam and prepare to be wowed by a burger.
I think he got it from the Hard Rock Cafe. However if you want a real man’s hamburger you got to go to Ginny’s Diner and Pub on Frankfort Ave, home to the famous “Sweet Daddy Burger”. If you’re going to fall off the red meat wagon, this is the one that will cause you to get back on.
I was there, even though I was a few hours behind. I thought that he got the burger at Fridays (it is right at the finish (4th street live). I dont know why but for the last few years I have gone down there I get a burger from Fridays and it is the best. Right at the finish line, cant beat it.
