Where to swim laps in Phoenix

Hi all, we’re heading to Phoenix this coming weekend (1/18 - 1/20) and was wondering if anyone can point me toward a pool.
We won’t have a car & are staying at the Hyatt at 122 N 2nd St, Phoenix. The hotel has an outside pool, but doesn’t look like a good one for laps.
Thks!

Hi:
Karen, ST Concierge at your service. I’ve traveled to Phoenix a few times but only ever swam at ASU in Tempe.
There is a handy search at the US Masters Swimming site:

  1. There’s a YMCA listed just a few blocks from your hotel but no lap swim schedule listed.
Recommend you call the YMCA for more info. Some of the reviews were spotty, but it looks like it has been renovated and is pretty nice.
  2. Also, Sun Devil Masters has quite a few workouts in your timeframe, and it looks like you can take the light rail system to the ASU campus.

Definitely look into that, and ask at the hotel for directions.

I 've been all over the world for work travel, and always look for a Masters Swim Group in the area. It’s a great way to get “locals only” knowledge of best (and worst) places to eat, shop, drink beer, and also meet fun people.
Let us know how this works out for you, or if you discover a gem of a lap pool in the Valley of the Sun.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for the info.
Since the Valley of the Sun Y was walking distance, I headed there. The pool is only 4 lanes wide. But I was able to get my workouts in with only sharing a lane briefly. The locker room is pretty nice as was the exercise area, but the pool and shower area are a little dated. But I’m spoiled, we just opened a 2nd Y last November where I live. Still, the staff were cool, didn’t charge me for swimming/working out. They do have their pool schedule on-line, so I was able to get there right when they opened and get my workout in.
Thanks!

Sounds like you had a pretty good experience at the YMCA, and thanks for sharing that info.
I too am spoiled, as my local Y in Encinitas has 2 pools and 2 masters workouts/day M-F.
Sorry for the delayed response, I was preparing for Triathlon Biz Int’l conference in LA.
What a blast, but a lot of work, and no time to swim.
Thanks again, glad things worked out for you.

I was just in Tempe Sunday through Wednesday. Unless you have a student or faculty sponsor, public can no longer use ASU recreation facilities including the pool in Tempe. Swimmersguide.com lists as NO public access, I thought I try as I swam there several times while traveling through. This time, I got turned away by front desk employee.

Eldorado pool in scottsdale is maybe a mile or 2 feom asu. Lots of public pools in scts. Im spoiled. We have our own 3 lane heated lap pool in my community, and rarely if ever is there a wait
