Is it best to stay right downtown? Do most of the downtown hotels add on the mandatory $20/day parking/valet fee? How about any tips on decent restaurants? Thanks.

Food, simple…Capital Ale House!
+1 on the Crowne. Definitely closest and least expensive. Other close options are the Hilton Garden Inn and the Omni.
