Where to ride in Tampa....?

Guys, long time reader and first time poster here…

I moved to the Tampa area (Brandon actually) last year from Tucson. Most of my bike training has been done on the trainer since I’ve been here. I haven’t found any safe places to ride …other than MacDill AFB and that gets boring after a few loops around. Anybody got any good locations? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!!

Chris

Try the suncoast trail, runs along the suncoast parkway. Fourty-three miles long and only four or five roads cross it…awesome

I agree the Suncoast Trail is a good choice for riding in Tampa. You might also ask on the St. Pete Mad Dogs website at www.stpetemaddogs.com as they have a lot of members spread out in the Tampa Bay area

Chris,

Where have you been hiding, man!! Central Florida is cycling/triathlon mecca.

For Tampa rides, check out http://www.5skaggs.com/GroupRides_Tampa-StPete.htm. San Antonio is a brutal, popular ride.

If you want some hills and change in scenery, come to Clermont, which is about an hour inland, directly east of you. Check out www.windermereroadies.com. Come to one of our infamous Wednesday night or Sunday rides. Fast, furious, painful and fantastic!

Cheers. Welcome to FL.

Robert

All great rides. I really miss living down there…

There are also regular rides out of St. Pete on a regular basis if you find yourself looking for a change.

Hey guys…thanks for the replys. Kinda sucks I haven’t had as much time as I’d like to get out and find some good places. I’ll try these though. Maybe I’ll see some of you around here. Thanks again!

Used to live in Tampa at the intersection of Kennedy and Dale Maybry. I used to ride alot at Flatwoods State Park. Its just east of 75 at…ummm…can;t remember the road…oh yeah, Bruce B Downes Rd. I think, although it might be one exit further north of Bruce B Downes. Just north of Fletcher Rd. They have an awesome paved trail (only 7 miles long though). Plenty wide enough to pass people all day long. No traffic!!! AND they have VERY cold water stops, three of them in 7 miles. Its great for running and biking.
