Where to eat in Shreveport?

Hey All:

I’m in Shreveport tomorrow for business, likely just the day, but may be overnight.

So, where can I get some good local eatin’? I lived in NOLA for 3 years, and I know the opposite corner of the state is a bit different from the lower 1/2. I don’t care.

Tell me what’s the best local food and where to get it. Lunch and dinner, maybe I’ll make both.

Thanks…T

I was down there for Nationals last year and ate at the Blind Tiger twice. Good stuff. It’s on Texas St, by the river in the downtown

Sweet. Youdaman.

I figured someone from 'Nats would show up.

Thanks…T

I was at nationals too … dont eat the food … go to the food store and eat something from a box or cook something on your own … maybe im just spoiled because im from NY but the food there made me sick to my stomach and im probably going to have nightmares tonight thinking about that place!

I pity you…

To recount 2fast4u and my trip there last year…

We go into this bookstore to try and find a guide to the area. HA! Nobody bothered to write one, ‘cause their ain’t nothin’ there! So we ask the nice girl behind the counter, “Excuse me, where is good to eat around here? If you wanted to eat a REALLY good meal or go to a nice restaurant, where would you go?”

Girl behind counter: “Chili’s is real good. And, uh, Longhorn Steakhouse, that’s real good too. Lemme see. Applebees, that’s real good. Pretty much that’s it.”

Unfortunately, we had already eaten like four consecutive meals at Chili’s since it was the only chain we knew and were ready to die. I just wanted somewhere “normal” to eat…

If I had it to do over, I would have eaten PB&J with a banana every day I was there. Make a sandwich, eat in. Don’t bother going out. You WILL be dissapointed…

man where’d you find Chilis at?? We ate at Applebees on reccomendation from the bookstore (big bookstore in a strip mall) girl as well. Seriously, no offense meant to anyone who lives there but Shreveport was pretty bad and we sure didn’t find any good places to eat in the 4 days we were there. Maybe we just missed everything good.

Blonde? Pretty? Not so bright? That’s who helped us… Maybe she helped you too… That’s definitely the same bookstore. It was like bargain books or something. Lots of books for cheap, nothing good…

Best meal I had was my granola I brought from home for race morning…

You guys need to live a little. Go into an interesting looking place and eat the food. Go eat there, it’s good.

Ralph and Kacoos
Superior Grill( Killer Tex Mex)
Monjunies Italian
Olive Street Bistro
Merrels or Georges Grill old fashion kine breakfast joint)
Pete Harris stuffed shrimp
Dominiques/ Good Muffies
Copelands
Dudley and Geralds Savoies (seafood)
Blind Tiger
Hickory Stick BBQ

Is that enough?. The folks that went to Nats missed all the good places. For a town of 250k they have a pretty good bunch of eating places. Lived there for a long time. Be there in a couple three weeks for 25th River Cities Tri. Aloha G

Came very close to eating at the Blind Tiger… Now I wish we had…

Where were you when I was at the bookstore?!

Honolulu
.

we figured there had to be better places to eat, and hell more people for that matter. went into downtown and it was like a ghost town. I guess that’s what happens when you go to a race though, you get all caught up in the racing and miss out on actually exploring wherever you are visiting. Just came back from Richmond Xterra though and damn, there are a lot of AMAZING places to eat in Richmond. Trying to eat healthy before a race is a trick but it was a great town to visit and the race was lots of fun, hot hot hot fun too.

Yea Tai, Not much going on Downtown in S’port. I didn’t think there was any place to eat in Detroit staying at the Ren either. Then we found Greek Town that is huge just a few blocks away. From now on I am getting on this forum before I go out of town and get the scoops.

What are you doing halfway around the world doing Xterra? I can loan you my singlespeed mtb for Maui if you want some real fun. G

Definately Mounjinies, I think Dudly and Geralds is now just Geralds, great gumbo. I’d add Strawns to the list for burgers and plate lunches, the peach pie should be in season. Mama Mias is good. Maxwells market has great sandwiches and groceries. Visit the bagel shop at Sportspectrum. The list goes on, it just depends what your in the mood for.

Yeah, Shreveport sucks in many, many areas ( I grew up there), but food is not one of them. It’s NOT N.O., but not too shabby.

I’m going to say Strawn’s “Eat Shop” on 70th street across from Centenary College for lunch. Be sure to get a slice of pie and be sweet to your waitress. Or if you’re feeling healthy or veggie, you could hit Eartheral on Line Ave (next to my old High School, C.E. Byrd). Further down Line is the previously mentioned Maxwell’s market. There’s some other, newer coffee/food place down 70th closer to I-49.

There’s tons of good dinner places (previously mentioned by g-man). There is actually tons more going on downtown along Casino row on both sides of the river. I haven’t been down there since they added it all, but from what my Mom says, sounds like mostly chain stores and food. Mayber I’ll check it out when I visit for River Cities in a few weeks.

Enjoy your trip.
