Where the heck should I put my bottles?

Let’s say you have an aluminum P3 with Easton Attack aerobars and a clincher wheelset. You race Olys and want one bottle of water during a race. You also fear flats and need to bring a spare tube w/ a CO2 inflator. What setup would you use to accomplish carrying this gear?

For hydration I’ll probably go with a water bottle horizontally between the aerobars.

And the crazy part: use a Bontrager aero water bottle on the downtube to hold the spare and inflator. Will they even fit in there? Is it worth the effort or should I just put that stuff in a bag under the seat?

The CO2 and tube will fit in the Bont. bottle (kinda hard to get in and out though), then just hydrate with the aerobar mounted bottle. I put all the repair stuff in a regular water bottle (micropump, no CO2), and have 3 cages (aerobar, and 2 behind the saddle). For 1/2s the repair bottle and Gatoraide go in the back 2 and H20 up front, works great. If you’re not going farther than Oly then one bottle is fine.

Camelback and put the bike tools in the tail of your helmet.

Optimum Camelbak drinking tube routing?

Optimum Camelbak drinking tube routing?

up the back and around the head in the helmet

BTW. energy products should be supplied intravenously to save time reaching or gels etc.

Thanks for the tip!

I heard IV bags aren’t very aero. Is there a fancy carbon holder I can buy to put them in?

Just pour the IV fluids in to the frame tubes and supply from there. Sterility is for the weak.

You can always try the new Camelback, it would go under your tri jersey:

My vote goes for a small bag under the seat. It is surprising how much stuff you can fit in even a small bag.
I ride a Dual with only one bottle mount on the seat tube. I did add an aero bottle between the bars but this was for IM and IM/2. For an Oly I’d likely use just one bottle anyway. My $0.02

I agree with your idea entirely: bottle horizontally on the bar and then conceal your spares as best you can. Make sure its streamlned and small.
