Gov. Mark Sanfor(R-SC) told CNN’s John King that the government should let the economy work through the current challenges without intervention.
Although Sanford was critical of the federal government’s efforts to get the economy back on track, he equivocated when asked whether he would turn down money in the stimulus package intended for South Carolina which he would control.”
“I think that ultimately we’ll decide that question when we get to it,” the governor said.
They’re ALL politicians, no matter which party they belong to. And when a few billion dollars is tossed your way with almost no strings attached it’s no surprise when they say one thing but do another. Besides, if he doesn’t eventually take it he can be sure to expect a lynch mob in front of the governor’s mansion about .2-ought seconds after turning it down.
I can see him now; the sweat glistening off his face like the sheen you see on a freshly-polished car’s hood, trembling in anticipation at the thought of at least some of the money somehow finding its way into his campaign coffers.
This story’ll be repeated all across the land over the coming months. Big talk followed by a meek assent and a quick pocketing of the filthy lucre.
If we’re looking for Republican backbones, we might as well search for Democrat BRAINS at the same time. Obviously they aren’t using it with this stupid ass “bailout” that myself and my children and my grandchildren and another 15 generations of Money family members will end up paying for. Company execs fucked up…not my fault and I don’t want to pay for it.
Even the most obtuse of democrats or republicans can see the difference in not wanting the legislation to make it through congress, and turning down the dollars once allocated.
But he’s neither elected or accountable to anyone so can say what he wants. It’s easy to have a backbone when you are simply a critic on the sidelines.
