Where are my foot docs?

hey guys, ok so i had post-tib tendonitis in july which i thought healed up. When i fist injured it i was on a run and had a sharp shooting pain in the arch. After seeking medical help i got super feet insoles as it was determined that i did not need custom orthotics. last thursday i had a hard track session and when i woke up on friday i had arch pain. I am currently in month 2 of my Ironman training so i have some about 120days before the race giving me time to rest if need be. How long should i take off from running (im currently taking ibuprofen around the clock, keeping it elevated, and icing whenever possible). Is there a set amount of time that i should wait or should i play it by ear, i dont want to do any serious damage but i also dont want to take so much time off that i loose serious fitness if i dont have to. Thanks again.

2 things:

OTC devices like superfeet work about the same as custom for many people (with studies to prove it). BUT - they don’t last as long. Recent Canadian study showing their effectiveness lessened after as short as 4 months. So, step one - replace them if they helped initially.

Second - a hard track workout (not sure why you are doing this if an IM prep is your main focus, but that is another topic) is a LOT harder on the PT tendon as well since peak ground reactive forces are so much higher with sprinting/fast running. So, don’t do this!

There is no set amount of time for the tendonitis to respond as it various tremendously from about 10 days to upwards of 6 weeks.

I’ll let the other ST “experts” chime in with their likely recommendations for barefoot running, ART, finding the root cause, etc. I can’t see any further than my laptop right now
