Where are 09 AG Nationals going to be?

Anyone know? Just wondering.

Possibly New England I heard.

I heard a rumor about Maine, so maybe we’re onto something. That would be sweet, I’ve always wanted to see that area, what better way than from the saddle of my tri bike?

I would love to see them in Portland for a 3rd year.

Dave

Me too, since I live in the area and am just now getting good enough at this sport to qualify. I’ll be at Hagg Lake this September, but for '09 I’ll have to decide if it’s worth traveling for. Obviously I’d be more inclined to travel to Maine than Backwater, Oklahoma or something. (nothing against the residents of Backwater, Oklahoma. I’m just sayin. I like trees and hills and stuff)

I would love to see them in Portland for a 3rd year.

Dave

I wouldn’t mind portland again as I have family I can stay with for free there

I have never been and plan on qualifying for the first time this year as well. My current understanding is that you need to finish in the top 5 or top 33% (whichever is greater) of your AG at one of the regional championships or any other USAT sanctioned event, is that the proper understanding? This seems like a pretty basic standard for a somewhat fit/competitive person. Is this because they don’t expect many AG’s to travel across the country for the nationals?

You have part of the qualification. The standards are below:

2008 Age Group National Championship Qualification Standards are as follows: Athletes can meet qualification at any USAT sanctioned event between July 1, 2007 and one week prior to 2008 Nationals (Date TBA). Special Qualifying and Regional Championship races will qualify the top 33 percent or top five finishers (whichever is greater) in each age group. Click here for a list of Special Qualifying and Regional Championship races. Any non-championship USAT sanctioned event will qualify the top 10 percent or top finisher (whichever is greater) in each age group. Any athlete who has ever competed as a member of Team USA (triathlon or duathlon) will automatically qualify. All-American and honorable mention All-Americans from the 2007 USAT National Rankings automatically qualify. The top 10 finishers in each age group from the 2007 USAT Age Group National Championship automatically qualify.

I wouldn’t mind going back to Portland since my sister lives in Eugene and I went to college out there. The Northeast would be great so I could drive to nationals.

As an RD in Maine, I’ve heard nothing about Nationals coming here…although I could be out of the loop. It would be strange since I am coached by a Maine coach - who’s on this board and is on the USAT NE board; and he coached me thru in nationals last year. In addition, the Tri-Maine Series RD was here for my annual Christmas party and so were some elite/pro athletes and never once did I hear anything…but again too much wine…out of loop.
Where in Maine did you hear? You’ve sparked my curiousity!!!

I think i got it now

top 33%/5 in the championship races or top 10%/1 in the non-championship

Its a good thing they added that “whichever is greater”, I wouldn’t want less than a whole person competing
.

And it can be at any distance also.

My input is get to races as early in the season as possible, assuming you have kept yourself in shape!!!

Portland is a GREAT course for a championship. Hills, no humidity, no bugs, limited drafting. I already signed up for this year.
And I am hoping that maybe we can get www.myathlete.biz GPS system at this and other USAT races.

Dave

Already have one planned

Febuary 10, 400m/10mi/2.5mi

Hopefully i’ll be able to snipe the competition but it looks like i’ll have to be #1. Shouldn’t be too difficult.

I saw an ad in the 220 triathlon magazine about a trainer that you can hook up to the internet and race other people live. I know that computrainer allows people to race each other in person and that they have the oregon championship course downloadable, they need to get an internet setup so we can race each other from our living rooms

The system I saw also allowed you to remove your front wheel and hook the fork up to something that traced your turning as well. I am not sure if CT does that.

What race are you doing on the 10th? I am signed up for bearathlon at berkeley.

Netathlon allows real time internet racing. NA2 is much better than NA1. They have the WF course.
Kona, and many other stuff that is make up towns and stuff. We had like 6 of us going at one time
last night. Many different trainers work.

So, do not think it is easy to add courses, but they do have enough variety that you can pick what type
of stuff you want to do. Flat or hilly. Check it out. Is not as “good” as other, but the only on line one
I am aware of.

NA2 can use trainers with steering control if you have it.

I am in Florida at the moment so I am doing one of the multirace.com events. It is nice because they have quite a few races early in the season to test your fitness before some of the bigger later races. I am planning on moving to SD this summer though.

Unfortunately I just spent all my money on a new aerobar/brakes/extensions/rear derailleur/wheels and I still need an aero helmet and tri suit but I will add it to the list

Was it an ad for the Tacx Fortis Virtual Reality Trainer? My husband got me one for Christmas and I love it. Great for working on hills in the winter and lots of fun. I have not raced anyone online yet, but will soon. We have not downloaded the nationals course. We have to figure out how as it is not automatically set up like it is for CT.

I know when I road the portland nationals course on my CT last year, it was MUCH harder than the actual race.
But, it sure will get you mentally prepared that it is not a flat course.

So, have you bought the NA2 s/w? Need this to race online.

Dave

is it just me or does this seem like a surprisingly easy standard for a “national championship”?

Dan

Yes, but USAT seems to want to have a race with 1500 or so people so the standard needs to allow for enough people to be able to qualify and come to the race at the location and date they have chosen.

What is NA2?

I am already able to race online, I just haven’t done it yet.

What do you use to face online with?

NA2 is netathlon 2 from Fitcentric.com

http://www.fitcentric.com/html/netathlon_2_0.html

Lets many type of trainer race together using Gamespy to hit the different servers.
