Just trying to get some “expert” opinions and help regarding riding a disc for hilly Half and full IM distance courses. I have been riding a 909 ZIPP set for about 4 years now (only in races) but am curious if I should consider a different rear wheel setup for a hilly IM course I am doing next year. I did CDA in '08, have done other Half hilly courses (vineman, Longhorn (speed bumps), BSLT, etc.) on them. I am really just curious if it is worth getting a deeper wheel and not running the disc at a hilly IM course next year (St. George) or if I should just stick it out and ride it.
Unless you are at kona. Ride the disc.

x2…with the current lightweight discs, the weight is a non factor. they will climb nearly as well as any spoked wheel and will be faster on the rest of the course. 10-15 years ago many of the discs were so heavy that they were pretty specific to flatter courses but not any more.
use a disc when you want to go faster.
if normal ‘solid’ discs cause handling issues for you, or comfort issues, use a disc that is based on a normal wheel, like the Hed Jet, or a wheel + wheel cover.
I like to use my Hed 3 on the rear vs. my Disc if the course is hilly. I just find I can climb better.
Always use your disc. Disc these days do not present enough of a weight penalty to consider not using them.
Thanks everyone!!!
Disc it is!
