When to buy new shoes?

I’ve been training for a while in some adidas supernova 10’s. How many miles do you guys expect to get out of your training shoes? When is it time to get new ones?

I just not a new pair of shoes yesterday.
They recommend ~300 miles from each pair.
I have never had a problem at ~500 miles a pair.

I used to toss them at 300 miles, then it became 500 miles. Right now I have a pair of Nike Zoom Vomeros (the first ones) with a little under 600 miles and they are going strong. Once the tread is completely gone on the ball of the foot, I’ll toss them. But, I’m shooting for 650.

I also have a pair of Nike Frees with over 300 miles on them. I bought their replacement last year, but they keep going too.

So, to answer your question, I stop runnig in them when the balls of the foot wear completely (think almost a hole) out. I do still keep them around for yard work and walking the dogs.

I guess it also depends on what surfaces your running and your weight. Losts of grass/dirt should leave you with more cushioning for longer, likewise with slow vs. fast running, I would think. My wifes running shoes last for many many months, 107 lbs just doesn’t seem to have the same effect as my ~170.

For me, usually start to notice the shoes after ~250-300mi, then feel like replacing ~50-100 mi later on, mostly concrete/asphalt running. So something on the order of ~300-400 mi. Found this was consistent from running log, otherwise wouldn’t have a clue as I go by feel, not mileage. FWIW, I’ve been using Asics Cumulus for last ~3-4 years.
