During a race, is there any time not to be riding with a disc?

uphill TT? though garmin did the math and had a disc on their P4s and R5cas, so maybe even then
hurricane?
I’d say only in super heavy cross winds if your not comfortable controlling the bike.
Don’t disks lend stability though?

bro, look out the window
next time you see it really windy, go ride around with the disc on
.
One step ahead of ya:

.
If its gusty no. If the wind is steady there is no real issue, but getting slammed by a 40+mph gust out of nowhere can really give you a pucker factor of 10 when your really moving!
the pucker factor is about the same, disc or not, when that happens.

on the swim or run portion ?
I don’t find a disc much better than a 90mm rear. If its a Sprint or Olympic on a rolling course with a turn around and 4-5 90º turns I just leave the 90mm on as the gains are small

No even then. A disc will shed mud.

90 ain’t much better than a 60, might as well use a 60
60 aint much better than a 40
40 aint much better than a box rim
i find myself on an Eddy M steel round tube frame
and that is ok!
Yeah, sum of the parts. But, I notice the 300g difference between my Stinger 90 and my Stinger 90 w/disc cover. If the race is 50% on hills, I go cover-less.
Personal preference, I suppose.

well, you can do the math and make educated preferences
of course it won’t be a huge deal either way.
Don’t ned to worry about it. They canceled the bike leg for the local race during Hurricane Irene. Disc stayed on the bike!
Show up on your local crit with a disk and bring along a supermodel wearing only lingerie, and I guarantee she will get less stares than you.
.
Or when a 40 ton dump truck passes you 2’ away doing 60 mph. But the subsequent push or draft is fun.
don’t tempt me brah
i might do that, and we don’t want that
I’m fred enough with the jet9s at the crit

there is a very winning master’s racer in the NE (who’s name I’ve forgotten) who rides a disk in CX.
