Was wondering how many athletes void prior to training ?
I know if I am going to run I definately try and go before leaving though if I am on the bike I normally wait and stop during the ride, or go when I get home.
Swimming is different again.

What a comedian!
Greg,
Was being serious, I was doing a brick session last year on a hot day. Rode 120k and planned to run 6ks off bike at IM pace. Everything was going as planned, until I started to get a pain in the lower duo denum and at about 2ks from home I realised I was in dire straights. I had a brand new pair of Nalini riding shorts on and realised with about a k to go I wouldnt make it home, even tried walking. Anyway It all happened about 3 doors up from my home, luckily it was all contained in the Nalinis with not a drop spilt on quad.
Anyway the moral is, try and make a deposit before any leg of training.
All the best,
Safe training.
sorry…just too good an opening.
and i second your thought. i dont think however i’d let loose in some new shoes. the after effects have to be pretty nasty.
some things are better left unsaid… ;0
that said … always before. strain and force if you have to.
I generally try and “void” before any training, if I dont I usually feel the need very soon into the session. As most of my running is done in the bush, and impromptu stop in the bush is not so much the issue as the aggressive nature of some of the aussie fauna which tend to frequent the area…not to mention trying to scrape together some wiping material.
G-
You need to be prepared, my man. If you cannot make things happen before you workout, carry the necessary tools to manage the situation on the road/trail. Your Fuel Belt has a little pocket…use it. Nothing like making a donation to mother nature, as long as it’s out of sight and out of the way of fellow runners and riders. But never in good, high quality cycling shorts. Or new shoes. Come on man, not in the good fabrics.
Now, on that subject, here’s a quick lesson, based on an unfortunate experience. My wife was in an invitro-fertilization cycle, and taking huge amounts of drugs to assist. The drugs constipate. The health food store lady sells me some Smooth Move herbal tea for my wife’s relief. Your’s truly takes a cup. Whammo! They ought to rename it **Earthquake, **becasue that’s what it felt like…moments before starting a long run. No trail tools necessary. Moral: due yer best to get the job done before!!! Or else be prepared.
Is that herbal tea actually called “Smooth Move”, my mrs was after a herbal tea that helped with voiding I might look it up thanks man. And yes I have often carried some paper in the little pouch oft used for gels and the like and for those pre dawn raids on some unsuspecting nature strip or Putt Putt course.
