When can I get a P2c?

OK, so I’ve been drooling over the P2c along with many others on this website. Looking to get my first tribike this off-season. I’m coming over from a Trek 5200 (OK, withhold Trek bashing. Say what you want, the bike rides like a dream) and I’d really like to stay riding a carbon frame. I don’t want to wait until June to get a new bike. Having heard the long wait for P3c this year I have my concerns over realistic availability for Cervelo’s lastest carbon release.

A lot of you seem quite informed on this topic (Tom?), So, educated guesses: when will this bike be available? October? January? June? If this bike won’t be available in the next couple of months, I’ll start looking at the new Quintana Roo or extend my search to include aluminum.

Thanks.

Delivery for Cervelo will be better this year than any previous year I am told by Rodney and Dwayne at Cervelo. These guys along with the rest of the crew there are our go-to people for bike allocations.

Cervelo has introduced more reliable deleivery times for new bikes for 2006. In other words, there is a significant likelyhood that Cervelo could have a more accurate idea of when the bikes may arrive. This is significant as it makes the delivery dates more significant.

As with any Cervelo bike that is highly sought after- and now the show-stopping P2C- buy early and wait. That will never change. What is different now is that, according to my conversation with Rodney at Cervelo, there may be a greater likelihood of accurately forecasting delivery dates with a higher degree of precision.

That said, once allocations are sold through they are sold through. Hopefully last year’s lesson of the P3C lead times- which actually were not *late *per se, they were just difficult to forecast- will have conditioned customers to step up to the plate beginning now for the bikes they need in Spring of '06. Customers coming in during January expecting to get good delivery are behind hundreds, if not thousands of other customers nationwide.

Thanks Tom.

Tom,

Cervelo is in an outstanding but awkward position. The profile and want/need for the brand and the bikes is far and away above, not what they can deliver on, but what dealers have a confidence in ordering well in advance. That’s what the weak link is here. I am sure that you will order with confidence, but many others will not. Many dealers will wait and wait or just put in the same order that they did for this year, when in fact that could/should double their Cervelo order!

I know that we went through this when I was at Sugoi and going though big growth - consumers where clamouring for the gear, but we were getting push-back from dealers who did not want to increase their seasonal booking orders to accomodate the demand out there. They would then sell out and would be back mid-season placing a re-order. Of course, we never said, " I told you so". It was a bit easier for us at the time because we had almost total control over production. I know and realise that with bike the supply and production chain is significantly more complex and involved. All the more reson for dealers to really know their market, do their homework and book/buy with confidence.

Tom - does a 58 P2K fit the same as a 58 P3SL?

thanks for all you do

Wow, that’s an interesting question.

Here is the geometry chart from Cervelo’s website for the P2K at the 78 degree orientation:

I would say the predominant difference is the 2 cm. difference in head tube height. The question is, can you/do you want to ride low enough to use a P3? If not, the P2K is a better choice. I hope this helps. Good luck My Friend!

Ooops. That didn’t work out so well…

Anyway- The 58cm P2K has a head tube of 160 mm and the 58 cm P3SL has a head tube of 140- that seems to be the predominant difference.

I want a P2C in plain carbon with just a Cervelo graphic…forget the fancy sticker or paint job…doable?

Can you use “significant” that many times and it still have significance?

No…it looses its signifigance. And another thing…how in the hell does Cervelo know it will be better able to track orders in 06 than 05 unless they already have all of their inventory for the year? One Typhoon and ShitmaNO is building cranks in a garage and Cervelo is waiting like the rest of you. It was a wheel shortage last year…Cervelo cant control that. Unless Gerard, God and the Devil have an agreement - wishes and dreams are just that when you OEM every part of a bike from folks on the other side of the Pacific.

thanks Tom.

BUMP. Hoping to get Gerard’s attention.

I was told today by the folks at Cervelo that they are looking at deliveries of P2C’s starting in March '06.

The R3 is also looking like March '06.

2006 Duals and P2 SL’s are readily available.

Most sizes of P3C and P3 SL are also available now.

Do you have the soloist team w/ ulteg 10 in stock? 56?

thanks for all you do
… this Bud’s for you

2006 Soloist Team w/Ult 10 recently became available. SRP is $2200

Cervelo reports that they have a good stock in all sizes.

As of today I have them on the way.

Austintricyclist-

Thanks for chiming-in. March delivery is too late for me to go with the P2 carbon. Too bad, looks like a sweet ride.
