American Classic 420’s w bladed spoke or Ksyrium Sl’s - I can only afford one pair for racing and everyday training. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.
What kind of bike and what color?
Black Giant TCR Composite 0.
Get some Neuvations. I wouldn’t want to use that level of wheel for everyday training.

Just curious to know your reasons why not? Wife and I use the CR-350s for everyday training and no problems to speak of excluding last weeks problem with the recall/retrofit but that is an exception and not the norm.
Get black 420’s with yellow(or blue) striped tires. Which ever matches better.
Thanks. Bit I am not really that concerned with look but with durability and functionality.
Ksyrium Sl’s new are $800-$900, American Classic 420’s are $800
Get something a whole lot cheaper to train and race on. It’s no wonder you can only afford one pair.
A set of Velocity Sparticus’ would work just as well as either of those at $229 a set and you won’t pay the extra $550 for the name.

I have a set of ok wheels and I was looking to upgrade and get something that would be dual purpose. Both the Ksyriums and Am Classic were suggested.
Probably just bike racer apocryphal. The idea is through extended usage the wheels will lose some of their stiffness or plain wear and tear will degrade the desired properties compared to use as race-only wheels.
Those are both awesome wheels but I feel that they are so overpriced that you would be dissapointed with the lack of performance/$ from them. I was when I got my Ksyriums for my road bike.

AmClassics. Don’t underestimate the value of standard spokes and nipples.
If you are willing to spend that much why not look at the Zipp CSC training wheel. I know nothing about them other than what I read on the Zipp site.

I rode a 420 front from a friend for one race…and ONLY one race. It was the harshest rim I’ve ever been on (more so than 36 hole box rims), and I wouldn’t even consider buying one. I ride a Velocity Spartacus 16 spoke in the front with a 20mm Conti 3000 for training, and 32 hole open pro for the rear for training. I’d recommend the 20 spoke front (stronger than the somewhat flexy 16 hole) for around $120. With a 20mm tire it’s pretty aero and quite comfy. For crit racing it would suck tho… I’ve heard good things about the Campy Scirocco, which is also reasonably priced at $500 a pair…but never tried them.
I have a pair of Ksyriums and they are going to have to pry them from my cold dead hands. I am also only 140 pounds, so that may have something to do with the ride.
look into topolino’s About the same $$ and very light. I just past 9K for the past year without a hitch.
Neither. You’ll regret the AM Classic hubs and the Ksyriums are about the farthest thing from aero on the market.
Easton Tempest.
Amazing hubs. 30 (or 32?) mm rim depth (still not anywhere deep enough to be considered truly aero, but much better than a Ksyrium). About the same weight as either the AMClassic or Ksyriums and they’re cheaper (about $650 if you shop around).
I ride a pair of 420’s on my Kharma, and they work well for me. They’re really light, and they seem to hold up well.
