Hi Folks-
I am a decision away from ordering a new wheelset. I have my eye on the following:
SRAM S60/S80 front/rear
HED Jet 6/9 (60 front/90 rear)
Does anyone have experience with either (or both) that they’d like to share? I know that the SRAM wheels are the same as flashpoints with structural carbon, while the HED wheels are a carbon fairing on an aluminum rim. Thanks!
Don’t know anyone with the new SRAM wheels, but they seem pretty darn heavy (via specs) for the money. Yeah, weight doesn’t matter much with aero wheels, but if all things are equal (i.e. price), then I’ll take the lighter wheels (assuming just as durable), thanks.
I’ve ridden a Hed Jet 90 front for years with no issues.
The hubs are significantly (like, a million times) better on the Hed. than on the FP. There’s only a minor difference in quality (the Hed hubs are smoother), but it’s the noise that does it for me. One of my teammates is officially forbidden from coasting for any reason because he rides FPs.
Ditto on SRAMs being heavier than they should be. HED has been around forever, and they make great wheels. SRAMs look bulletproof, but heavy as f.
Yeah, yeah, aero is aero, but why carry the extra weight if you don’t have to?
