Wheel switching? -- 10-speed to 9-speed

I don’t own race wheels – not in the budget; so, I normally just ride my “everyday” wheels with a Wheelbuilder disc cover on the rear. My buddy has 9-speed Zipp 404s. Can I put them on my 10-speed?

In my brain (although even that might be misguided), I have the understanding that 10-speed wheels could be used to fit a 9-speed bike with the use of a spacer and a 9-speed cassette. My question is whether 9-speed wheels could be used to fit my 10-speeed bike? IOW, will there be enough room for my 10-speed cassette?

A 10sp cassette is narrower than a 9sp cassette. You would need to use the 10sp cassette with the 10sp spacer on the 404 to get it to work. You don’t need a spacer to use 9sp cassettes.
