looking for advice on wheelset for: train/race, climb, aero, in that order… have beaters for training now, and hed 3s (back one just knocked a little out of true) that i will keep. So far have considered: Mavic cosmic premium sl,flashpoints, and hed jets…
i will keep the beaters on my old roadie, and these wheels would go on tri bike for the above…(i can still get some race use out of the heds)…pros/cons/ other sets (or single rear) i should consider? Thanks
I too am interested in responses to your question. I have been using a set of Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL clinchers as training/racing wheels on my triathlon bike for the last year. These things are bomb proof which means I get to enjoy them every ride without fear of cracking a rim. I am looking to get a PowerTap this winter which means that I am going to reconsider the wheels that I use for training/racing. Again, my criteria are clinchers and bomb proof as I would like to use the PowerTap for both training and racing. Choices include lacing the PowerTap into the rear Mavic Cosmic Carbone SL, or going with what should be a marginally more aerodynamic wheel such as the HED Jet 60 front/90 rear or Flashpoint 60s. If the HEDs or the Jets are not as durable as the Mavics, then I would probably just keep my Mavics as the 5-10s (just a guess) difference between the Mavics and the Jets/Flashpoints over 40K just is not worth the worry.
